Even after taking an Agatha Christie class and knowing all the repertoire of techniques she uses to manipulate and mislead a reader, I STILL didn't guess who did it -- that's how good her work from the 1930s is.

Pure and utter genius! I have yet another favourite Poirot book. Agatha Christie writes with her fabulous sass (as usual) and my gosh the twists in this one; I could've never guessed them! The perfect way to end my Poirot and Hastings reads, though I know it's not truly the end, because I'll re read them all! ;)

I read this for book club, and I think in trying to pick an Agatha Christie book that no-one had already read/seen an adaptation of, we might have accidentally selected a lesser Poirot (a rare creature, I am told). I read it in one night and found it compulsively readable, but not very satisfying? I wanted to go, AHA! BUT OF COURSE! at the end, but when all was revealed I was a bit underwhelmed. That is not to say I guessed what would happen, I fell for every single red herring along the way (*strikes detective off list of possible careers*) but the resolution just seemed a bit silly. Even for a main character that my dad described as a "semi-comic twerp", ouch.
i think the lesson to be learned from all this is dont do coke kids
Easily the most confounding. I was well into the last act before I cottoned onto the solution.
