HOLY SHIT that was fun. This entire book is kind of a mess, but I sort of love it for that reason. I never knew what was going to happen next, and I was intrigued the whole way through. Completely rating this by my enjoyment, I'd rate it as five stars! I feel like if this was a movie, it'd be one of my favorite movies of all time. It's just so much fun! And I think the cinematography of the forests and those scenes where she's standing by the window--yeah. It'd look amazing. But there are cringey things galore, so I did knock off a star. But it's honestly - just fun. If you're looking for a book to take you on an adventure, sort of creep you out but also entertain you? This is it.

I realized, for the first time, that the magic hour is so beautiful because it's the last hour of the day. It's precious because the day is dying.

I kind of really dig everything about this book because it is so quirky. I liked the main character's narration because she's very matter-of-the-fact. It's exactly how I would think, so I felt like her thoughts reflected mine pretty well. There's a part where she's like "Gasp. I really wasn't surprised by that, but he didn't know I knew so..." it's just! She's funny, okay. She's weird, but my sense of humor is weird too. So it worked for me.

Great, I thought. My murder was literally going down in the history books.

Really enjoyed this. Wasn't very 'twisty' or 'turny' for me but still an enjoyable and compelling read that left me with goosebumps over my entire body! How can you stop the wheel of power and privilege?

DNF @ 35% honestly would be 1 star or less.

Holy shit. Just holy Shit. This book was fantastic. Utterly fantastic. The characters and the twists and turns! The movie references! Everything about this book was so good! That twist at the end! I almost dropped the book I wasn’t expecting that! MA Bennett got me shook!! That ending with the question mark? I died. Oh my Christ. So good. 4.5 stars. There will be a full review on my blog as soon as I manage to catch my breath and think straight.

Don’t know how I feel about this book. I liked it for the most part, but in the end there where so many unnecessary turns. It made the story less believable. I actually rolled my eyes a lot.
If they removed a few things, and maybe ended the book earlier, it could’ve been a 5 star read, but in the end I feel like it was a very anti-climax. Which is so sad, because the build-up was great! The ending was just disappointed.

I did fall in love with the writing style of this author, it is fast-paced, which suits this book. I enjoyed the descriptions of certain scenes, but I did want a bit more detail in certain areas.

In the end I do think this is an author to watch. The beginning of this book was great, it was strong and the first sentence had me wanting more! The endings of the book could use some more tweaking.

Oh, and the book contains spoilers for certain movies. Our main characters compares certain scenes in her life with scenes from movies, which can me spoilerish sometimes. So just a heads up! If you’ve watched a ton of movies during your life span, you maybe even enjoy certain things more, since the author used movie scenes to compare them to books scenes (I barely watch movies, so I didn’t recognize a lot of them)

Can't give it three stars. Can't give it two stars. So two and a half it is. I was disappointed by it, not gonna lie. It was one of those meh books. A shame cause I really was hyped for this book :(

LIKES

- easily written without it being childish or lazy

- the concept. I got a bit of Agatha Cristie vibe with the school and the huntin', shootin', fishin' party. Also no electronics aloud at the school. Because of that the book felt like you were back in time, which was really awesome.

- you don't see this genre in many YA books

- the ending! When the Abbot is also involved in the school's conspiracy. I really like the idea of the whole school conspiring together!

DISLIKES

- Greer, our main character, was very naive when it came down to Henry. He kisses you at night romantically on the roof while he has a GF? "Is he my boyfriend now?" "Does this mean it's over with (I forgot her name :'))" Uh no honey, one kiss doesn't make him your boyfriend.

- Really? You wanna back out of your plan with Shafeen and Nel to make Henry confess what he and his friends do at these huntin', shootin', fishin' weekends?. He tried to KILL you, Greer. And you're kinda ok with that?

- Greer says she's a murderer. But Henry decided for himself that he dies. You didn't push him. You feel guilty about him jumping because you put him into a situation he couldn't get out of himself. Doesn't make you a murderer.

- There are many movie references mentioned in this book. Greer liked to watch lots of movies with her dad. One of the movies mentioned was Sherlock Holmes: A game of shadows. I'm a big fan of the series and I always wanted to see the movie. Guess what.. THIS BOOK SPOILED THE ENDING. It was of value to the story but damn, I hate spoilers :'(

I was immediately disappointed in how slowly this book started, I actually started it and put it down once before I came back and gave it another try. I’m a huge fan of any book that takes place in a boarding school, so seeing that in the synopsis made me immediately request it. I’d say about 40% through the book, I was completely immersed and could not put it down until I found out how everything was going to turn out.

I found there was a lot of character building in the beginning, and maybe that’s why it took me so long to get into it. I was expecting to be thrown into an action pack book immediately. I wasn’t the biggest fan on the main character until maybe 85% through. She seemed to be just a big follower of all the people around her and generally annoyed me. It talked about bullying and I thought it was portrayed really well.

I’d say this one was an equally plot-based and character-based book. The first half was all character development and the last was all this strange intricate plot that was amazing to read about and follow though on. I loved the ending of this one and all the pop culture (movie) references. I would say push through the beginning if you are finding it slow, because it is definitely worth it.
