First instalment of the STAGS series and I loved it. It was really cool how it alluded to the ending throughout the book yet you still couldn't see exactly how it happened or guess the events along the way. I read this book in a matter of days and I loved it, the chase, the huntin', the shootin', the fishin'.

I was surprised by how good this was.
It's a classic dark academia thriller, exploring privilege and hierarchy. Although there were some issues with the writing & plot, it was a really immersive read. And though there are a few minor ideological issues with the text, in general I thought it was a great read. It was wrapped up well on it's own, but it definitely creates intrigue for the next book. I'm curious to see where they go from here.

This book kept me interested from page one. M A Bennett has taken a unique concept and made it dark, twisted and terribly terribly thrilling. The main character, Greer, could have verged into Mary Sue territory but Bennett manages to avoid this by giving her realistic flaws explored throughout the novel.
Although at times you are required to suspend your sense of disbelief, the twists and turns climax at such a thrilling conclusion that I was almost angry I hadn't worked it out sooner. Bennett includes minute details within the narrative to intrigue the reader and nothing is insignificant in this story.
I absolutely loved the setting descriptions in the book which displayed decaying British stately home in all their splendour.

This book was WILD and I really enjoyed it (even though I had NO CLUE what I was getting into!) — think Gossip Girl meets How to Get Away with Murder with dashes of Gone Girl and Sherlock Holmes... If you like teenage dramas and thrillers and books that you’ll fly through on the edge of your seat, grab this one!

I thought it had such potential, but it ended up being pretty lackluster.

I didn’t really enjoy this book - the plot wasn’t as exciting as I expected and the ending was a bit weird to me. And the use of the word ‘fricking’ made me realise this is a VERY young adult book. I will admit that I liked the settings and maybe one or two of the characters - I also liked to layout of how it was written. My rating for this would be a 2.5 but I rounded it to a 3 because I do think 14-16 year olds could enjoy this one.

Firstly I would like to say that I really enjoyed the fact this book is different from any other I have read. It was interesting seeing a modern book going back to older times rather than revolving around technology. I enjoyed reading about the characters and feel that they can be developed successfully in any sequels. I liked the chapters lengths and that the books was split into sections, this further helped the book to be a very quick read! It was definitely a fast paced page turner to find out more information about the 'medievals' and their plan. I hoped that the book would end as final however it has been left as open ended so a possible sequel. Although I would like to read on about the characters I feel like it could have made more impact as a stand alone novel. I enjoyed reading this young adult thriller and I will read it again!
