Think School Ties, but British, with a sordid component. I really enjoyed this YA thriller. Sometimes predictable, sometimes not, it was a fun and entertaining read. I particularly enjoyed learning more about the English tradition of blood sports—I always wondered about the intricacies of shooting when watching Downton Abbey, etc. and Bennett does a great job of explaining.

I thought this was a bit of a hidden gem to be honest, I wasn't expecting it to be so enjoyable, or to have so many moments where I was gritting my teeth. I am finding more and more with YA Plus fiction how very good it is, and how there are some wonderful stories that probably wouldn't fit well in adult fiction. My goal this year is to read more YA Plus because so far everything I have read has got high marks. *POSSIBLE SPOILER* - this reminded me a lot of the film 'Ready or Not' which I saw at the end of last year. S.T.A.G.S felt like a teenage version.
Greer MacDonald wins a scholarship to the prestigious St Aiden's school (S.T.A.G.S for short) which she is initially happy about, but as time goes by it really doesn't feel like she is fitting in at all, especially when she is constantly put down and teased by the most popular group of the school - the 'Medievals' who appear to be the epitome of English class with a massive dose of snobbiness thrown in.
However, one day she is sent an anonymous invitation, inviting her to spend the weekend 'huntin', shootin' and fishin' at Longcross - the family home (although it's really more like a mansion) of the head of the 'Medievals' - Henry de Warlencourt.
Greer cannot understand why she has been chosen, or why 2 other outsiders are also going.
But all will become clear, and Greer is going to need to keep her wits about her, and her head on her shoulders!
The minute I finished this, I was on Amazon checking if there was a sequel, and there is! So that will be added to my TBR very rapidly. I can't stop thinking about it!

I thought I would find this a slow book but it was actually really good. The dark twist on aristocracy is exactly how the common folk would picture evil upper class lol. Really enjoyed the diversity of the characters and found it a really enjoyable read. Probably not a book for everyone. Really food dark academia book with religious secret cult, blood sports and attempted murder. I like it.

I had really high hopes for this book but overall I was pretty unimpressed. The premise sounds AMAZING, but it was not nearly as dramatic and intense as I expected it to be, and therefore ended up being pretty boring. It also started out REALLY slow- I kept waiting and waiting and waiting for it to get good, and the best part ended up being the end. Bummer.

This had the potential to be a great novel as I enjoy YA novels, but it fell flat for me. It was an entertaining read, but the plot wasn’t fully fleshed out for me.
There was a lot that I enjoyed in this novel, the twist at the end was great and I didn’t see it coming. I liked how the author left it open for the rest of the books in this series and where the plot and series could possibly go.
I didn’t find any of the characters to be likable, they were OK for me, none of them really stood out.
