Great story, the choices made in coloring really took me out of the immersive reading experience

This was an interesting off shoot of Something Is Killing The Children. It was nice to learn more about The House of Slaughter; how it works, its history, the backgrounds of some of the characters we see in the original series.
I loved the queer romance at the center of the plot and how that was shown.
I wasn’t a huge fan of how the shifting timelines were handled. Usually I enjoy multiple timelines being utilized to tell a story and having them all converge at the climax to pull everything together…but the way this book handled its timelines made things more confusing than interesting. There wasn’t always cleanly cut between timeline jumps, often jumping in the middle of dialogue so it felt less like a timeline jump and more like the pages were bound in the wrong order. It definitely felt messier than it needed to be and made the story feel a bit clunky.
But overall it was an enjoyable story and I’m looking forward to more of both SIKTC and this series.
