House of Slaughter, Vol. 1: The Butcher's Mark by Tate Brombal, James Tynion IV

Compared to the main Something is Killing the Children title, this spinoff is actually easier to navigate as far as panel sequence goes. It also felt much more focused on emotional character development and background on some key mysterious characters. It's noteworthy that James Tynion IV didn't write the script, and I could tell, but overall Tate Brombal does a great job of carrying the torch into the dark corners of this monster-filled world.

This story could have easily been an embedded narrative in Something is Killing the Children. Luckily, the creative team saw fit for House of Slaughter to be its own series. This is definitely worth a read if you enjoy SiKtC.

I wanted something like the survivor camp to exist so bad when reading SIKTC.

It's nice to see Aaron after SIKTC. I feel so bad for him, and this is no different. Hopefully his story can be continued with Jace.

I didn’t read the plot so I didn’t expect the love story, but I’m here for it

Anything House of Slaughter and I’m in. I enjoyed seeing more about how the houses work, seeing Aaron’s character become fleshed out a bit, and I loved the way this set ended. Looking forward to more.
