There are some fantastically innovative ideas and images in this book and I enjoyed reading most of it. However, it is very geographically specific at the beginning, yet I had trouble visualising things clearly. There were also moments of action when I also had the same difficulty, though this was less of a problem. Still, I'm glad I had the experience of reading this.

A Light Most Hateful is a cosmic horror story sprinkled with zombies, monsters, and a dash of body horror to boot. At its center, it revolves around two teenagers, Olivia and Sunflower, as they navigate their identities, their traumas, and their friendship. The existing balance is disrupted by a mysterious storm that brings wave after wave of horrors with it, in addition to some astounding revelations. Olivia struggles to make sense of it while fleeing all manner of danger. However, she is determined to do what she can to save Sunflower.
A unique and fantastical horror story that is fairly equal parts heartbreaking and hopeful. It does bring you back to those often tumultuous times as a teenager. Saying things you did not mean, regretting moments that you cannot get back, and learning the lessons that only pain or loss can indoctrinate. This was my first book by Hailey Piper and I cannot wait to get a hold of some more.

Definitely a dark young adult book and the start is a bit slow but the twists were delightful. Nice to have a different kind of zombie-like story.
