…what?
i loved the *idea* that piper had for this one, but the execution did not keep me hooked. doing too much without enough. supercool concept though.

Very cool concept, very mediocre execution.
The main character probably should've been Sunflower, not Olivia, as her main personality trait seemed to be "runaway with secret crush on best friend" which didn't leave much for me to care about. I also wanted to like Christmas so badly (I love a devil may care gender non conforming character) but found their reticent attitude annoying. I loved the swap to Eldritch horror but found how it played out to be pretty predictable, which was unfortunate considering how original and interesting the first half was.

This book was so BOOOOOOORING in the first half. In the second half not only it was BORING but also STUPID. People walk and talk or just walk or just talk and it drags endlessly. The characters have no character whatsoever (haha). The whole plot and resolution are just incredibly stupid and disappointing. Whoever decided to compare this to “Bunny” and “Stranger Things” should be sued. Don’t waste your time on “A Light Most Hateful” - the same idea was used in “Bunny” in a much better way and there is no ambience of “Stranger Things”.
No one does third acts or monster design quite like Hailey Piper.
Runaway teen Olivia lives in a small Philadelphia town and, when a violent storm brings monsters and chaos, must save herself and her best friend Sunshine. What are the monsters? Where do they come from? And can Olivia and Sunshine both make it out alive?
Incredible book! I can't say too much, but this was not what I thought it would be in the best way. It will keep you on the edge of your seat and the reveals will take your breath away. Hailey Piper can literally do no wrong!!!
P.S. you should especially read this if you've ever had a friendship that felt like it was central to who you are as a person - and maybe you were also in love with them.
