An excellent, fast paced, really accessible sci-fi thriller. Genuinely could not put it down. Can't wait to read the second and final book!
This was as creepy as it was fun and would make a great movie! I would have binged it in a day if I wasn't expected to see other humans during my vacation. There was a great mix of characters I easily loved while others I wanted to meet a terrible end. I enjoyed the tension that built to utter chaos. Tad predictable if you read a lot of books in the genre but overall great read. Immediately started book 2!
WOW, this book was so good!
Incredibly fast paced, thrilling and creepy. Some of the characters were infuriating, but all the more human for it. I was kept of the edge on my seat the entire time.
ALSO. The author isn't scared of killing off the characters, which makes everything all the more realistic.

Though derivative of Aliens and zombie stories, I still enjoyed this fast-moving story. Main character Thea intrigued me, showing resilience in what started as a tough situation and kept getting worse. She’s left in a bad place, along with Coen, at the end, with Nova’s situation uncertain as well.
This was a tense story, with probably more adversity and dire things to come in book two for the remaining members of what was to have been a rescue mission to Alchys. More vomit zombies to come? Sorry, wrong story, and this is another example of what was going though my head while reading this book; hence what I meant by derivative. But that aside, I’m reading the second part of this duology because sometimes I’m not looking for innovative or unusual, and just want something fun.

Pretty enjoyable YA sci fi horror. A few sections went on a bit too much on the various planets/groups, those I could do without but they were few and far between. The rest was a fun crazy ride.
A storm is about to hit the remote research station our characters are stationed so they are being evacuated. Then the distress call comes in and they are sent out to answer the call on remote Achlys. The team is lead by rookie Dylan who has a lot to prove to her father. Scientist Lisbeth is an expert in her field and knows more than she is letting on about their rescue mission and her history with Achlys. Thea is Lisbeth's intern, an orphan trying to get ahead in the world. Nova pilots the shuttle, she washed out of the military but still wants to fly. The team is completed by techie Toby, mechanic Sullivan, and muscle Cleaver.
What they find on Achlys is death. A few dead bodies scattered around the base and a huge pile of the dead deep in a mine shaft. It appears they discovered something when they were mining and it infected them all, turning them into raving beasts bent on death. One of the dead left a message about not trusting the kid, which just might be about the lone survivor Coen. The team isn't sure if they can trust Coen, but he does hold vital information. As the team becomes infected one by one, it is a race to survive and get off the planet.
This was a seat-of-your-pants kind of novel. I was engrossed from the start. While this is not a new concept or idea, it is really well done. Bowman keeps the tension up and parcels out the information on a need to know basis. I actually was a bit surprised by the twist at the end and can't wait to see what happens in the sequel.

Disclaimer: This book has nothing to do with the movie Contagion or the global pandemic based on that movie.
Thoroughly generic space zombie story. Every single piece of this story is off-the-shelf.
But it is reasonably well executed, all things considered.

This isn’t a bad book for people who like Zombie stories. It does follow the standard plot line and doesn’t have many twists or turns. However, the author is a good story teller and has written some characters that can really get under your skin.
It’s Aliens, but for YA. No literal xenomorphs attacking people, but
1. the plot is way too similar, IMO;
2. there are two obvious names used that are in Aliens;
3. it’s nighttime (and they mostly come at night, mostly);
4. two similar deaths; and
5. a BUNCH of other things that I don't feel like typing.
I was quoting lines from Aliens at the characters toward the end. I love Aliens, and this is an obvious, poor imitation.
