It's been so long since I've read a sci-fi book and this was a great welcome back to the genre! It's very fast-paced, has plenty of mystery and conflict, and leaves off on quite the cliffhanger. I can't wait to get my hands on book two.

Real rating: Hmm...4.25 stars? That seems about right.
OH MAN. “Contagion” felt to me like a mix of (what I’ve seen of) Aliens*, and Venom (which I didn’t even like all that much), and an original product of Bowman’s mind. Thrilling, jaw-dropping, and incredibly inventive, “Contagion” had me at the edge of my seat. Though it was the tiniest bit predictable in certain parts, the plot twists were astounding. The writing was chilling, and the world-building was spectacular. I’m very, very glad that I chose to read this book in the daytime.

Going off of that...no spoilers, but OH MY GOD THAT CLIFFHANGER. Now that I’m finished, I’m anxious to see what happens next. But...of course, I’ll probably have to wait another few years for the sequel, as I will with countless others. Sigh...

*By “what I’ve seen of it”...well, long story short, I chickened out.

It was okay. I really didn't like that the book started with a view from inside the base. I would have liked it so much more if we didn't know anything besides what the crew knows. I just like discovering things at the same times my protagonists do.
I was expecting to feel more for the crew but it quickly became clear that we should only connect to the young protagonists and that the rest was expendable. Also mannn I hated Dylan. I know a unlikeable written character doesn't equil bad writing but she dampened my enjoyment so much. She was clearly written to have a reason for the crew to enter the base, but spelling out every single reason why they shouldn't and then doing it still just felt incredible frustrating to read. Why not make them oblivious to the threat and the locking them in the base or something? It's a horror trope as old as time but it works!
Anyway I just kind of put it on in the background wouldnt read it or recommend it to anyone else.
