Beautiful but heartbreaking story. I enjoyed it and once we know what happened in the past, we understand things more.

It starts as this slow going supercute teen story and then circumstances happen (don't want to spoil). It seems as though there is something bigger going on in that town.
When it all comes spiraling down it destroys everything and costs Lilac and Toby something precious.
I love Vicki's writing style. It's really slow pace as I'm used to from her and I knew there would be something incredible when I would arrive around halfway. She didn't disappoint. I loved Toby and Lilac and they live in my heart forever.

Okay so this book was a total gem that I found. I instantly fell in love.

You have a girl who is completely her own. Isn't like any other girl, lives life by her own rules, total stunner who everyone wants even though she isn't a typical popular kid.

Then you have the boy with issues not of his own that he strives to take care of. He is not to be trifled with. Nothing will stand in his way to protect those he loves. Even if it means trouble.

These two come together to make magic. Even when they aren't together. They thrive off each other. They are each other's opposite but they are their strongest together even if that means not physically together.

This book made me gush so bad. The MCs are just two amazing people who prove that once a seed that is love is planted it will grow no matter what gets in the way. It's just beautiful how it gets proven. And no this book isn't all butterflies and rainbows. It has its darkness and at one point made me want to skip pages to make sure I'd be okay to keep reading. But this book was just so good.

My love of books goes beyond being able to live a thousand lives with each story. It’s being able to live and experience and fall in love with the characters. It’s having that connection to them right until the very end. It’s being in the moment and being hooked on all the feelings the story is pulling from you.
There are some authors that can make you feel like you’re living the story along with the characters, they breathe life into their words, and Victoria L. James is one of those authors.
I’ve just finished A Girl Like Lilac and can’t put into words how moved and captivated I was by each and every syllable.
The writing was exceptional, so much so that I felt the emotion the author must’ve been feeling while writing. That’s a special gift for an author to have, to leave the reader feeling like they're a part of the very story they're reading.
Everybody needs to experience Toby and Lilac for themselves. It's a tale of young love, of bravery, of the things that really matter in life. How one person can change your entire world for the better.
It was a true love story.
Congratulations on an amazing book!
