4 short stories that I read simply because The Newest Olympian podcast was going to cover them and I didn't want to go in blind.
My favorite was probably the second with Annabeth and Percy because I'm a huge supporter of Percibeth. And I'm a sucker for a good George and Martha moment :)

Nice collection of short stories and puzzles that are sure to please Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus fans. The story written by Haley Riordan was my particular favourite (very well-written, a slightly more serious style than his Dad’s). I also enjoyed reading from Luke’s perspective in the first story

These short story compilations are always interesting- expanding on the world. This felt a little all over the place with going back to Luke, fast forwarding to Leo and Percy and Annabeth dating. It ended on a kinda dark note with the addition from Rick’s son- which was probably the most interesting short story. The point of view of a human learning of the world and the ramifications of being on the wrong side of the demigod war was intriguing. The viewpoint showed that despite Percy trying his best he couldn’t just erase years of mistreatment or erase the strong feelings that pushed certain demigods or lesser gods to join the Titans- while also tying to the current storyline with Gaea. Also a spectacular little tidbit of sharing who cursed demigods to be hunted by monsters. It showed how this series might continue or be expanded to young adult or adult classification. While interesting, it is never quite as satisfying as a full story arc.

Maybe if I had read this book before reading Mark of Athena, I would've liked it more.

Don't get me wrong. I really think it was a great read. The short stories were really good, but I guess I feel like it isn't that big of a contribution to the series. It's not like you have to read this to understand Mark of Athena. You don't.

If this story did anything, it made me see some characters in a different light.

I saw Luke differently, I felt pity for him, but I could also see why Annabeth and Thalia and him were such good friends. Luke could really be a great friend. I also find myself hating Hera. I used to only dislike Juno, but reading these stories made me also hate Hera. Hera is a jealous and out of control goddess. The gods of Olympus are so hot tempered that they don't stop and think of the consequences. I'm pretty sure 75% of the events that happened in all the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Oympus books could be prevented if the gods actually thought before acting.

Ranting aside, I was really impressed with Haley Riordan's short story. I think it was a really good insight into the world of the demigods. It was nice to see some good explanations for what really triggers the mist.

I'm hoping to see more of the characters from Haley's story in the next Heroes of Olympus book, because they'd make great additions.

In short, although I wasn't particularly surprised by these stories, I was entertained. This book is good to read when waiting anxiously for other books to come out in the series.

4 stars.
