I put my hand on Annabeth’s shoulder. “You’re part of our family now. And I promise I’m not going to fail you like our families did us."

Okay, it was really fun to have Percy narrate that date of theirs. It's very cute.
Another highlight of this book would be Haley Riordan's story of the Son of Magic. That was fun. Does this mean Rick Riordan was inspired by this when he made Hecate appear in Tartarus?

Both my sons read this book in about a day. It took me a couple days, but I have a busier life.
The stories advanced my knowledge of all the characters from this series (or maybe I should use the plural of series... if only I knew what that word was), while being entertaining. The gem of this book, though, is the story by Rick Riordan's son. I mean, it's not as funny as the others, but it introduces two new characters that are very well drawn, while explaining a lot that isn't fully explained in any of the earlier books. That story is the best reason to get this book.
I considered the games and puzzles to be filler, but my younger son told me (without me asking) that those are his favorite parts of the book. Of course, he is a born problem-solver.
