Audioboek en gewoon komen niet overeen. De schrijfstijl is niet mijn stijl. Geen zin om deze te lezen ook al wordt het beter.

When I first starting reading I was close to DNF’ing this book due to the style of writing in the first quarter, but I’m glad I kept reading. It became clear soon that the earlier writing was meant to be Juliette’s thoughts while being detained in the cell, where she was going a bit crazy, and as she was released and given more of a humane existence, the language on the page was clearer and less crazed. The artistic choice in this ended up being enjoyable, like I was properly in Juliette’s mind the whole book.

As for the characters, Juliette is an enjoyable character to be reading as. She is inherently good but with a touch of darkness if she gets angry, and her hatred of herself at the start of the book morphing into more acceptance by the end with the help of others is fascinating to see.
Adam is a character that I’m still confused with. He is very kind and protective of Juliette, and has been nothing but loving, caring and an overall good person, but there’s something about him that I can’t pinpoint that makes me think he’s hiding something. I guess I’ll have to wait until the next book.
Warner is one of the most evil characters I’ve read in my opinion. Seeing a typical scary villain is normal, but Warner is evil while thinking it’s for the greater good, and that he actually has love for Juliette, while manipulating and forcing her to do things she doesn’t want to do. I thought originally that Warner was gonna have a redemption arc somewhere, and I still possibly do, but after the scene with the toddler, it’s going to be incredibly hard for him to redeem himself and come back.

Oh and also, maybe unpopular opinion, but I don’t care for Juliette and Adam together. In fact, the chemistry (or should I say electricity) with the Brandon guy in the movement was better and they met once. Enough said.

“my arms ache from the inescapable ice of isolation. my own mother couldn’t hold me in her arms. my father couldn’t warm my frozen hands. i live in a world of nothing. hello. world. you will forget me.”

the story is good, the universe is interesting, but juliette is insufferable until we reach page 250!! then she grows a backbone; adam is a walmart version of four in divergent, literally an npc i could not care less about him or his romance with juliette i can’t wait for him to die (hopefully he dies!!) ; aaron tho!! i like him, he’s complex and you can tell he’s gonna have a cool development throughout the books. more of him!! i’m really confused about his feelings for juliette though… like is he ACTUALLY in love with her? or just fascinated? he doesn’t know her so how can he already love her? and like did i hallucinate that they’re gonna be together?? am i tripping?? i guess we shall see!! overall, definitely not the best dystopian book i’ve read, sometimes i feel like the author is trying too much to be stylish and fails, but a solid start to a series, good enough for me to be excited for the next one. note: the author isn’t good at getting me on board with the adam-juliette romance…less romance more plot please idgaf about whose and whose lips touching for the 1000000th time just shoot each other or something please
