Great little collection of stories and an ideal read for young women infatuated with the great outdoors and toxic men lol. Quick read but very captivating and well written!
Weak from the first story. Poignant depiction of how hard it is to be a feminist heterosexual with descriptions of landscape and adventure that were so easy to drop into. The perspective of Salt Lake as an outsider still hits.

Update- as I read this the first time, hurrying to finish it all in time for my book club meeting, I knew it wanted to be read more slowly- digested. Over the last year, I’ve revisited this book several times, and there’s just nothing like it. Her writing feels like it could be my own voice, and tells me that my stories need to be out in the world, too. It’s a celebration of womanhood, framed against the follies of our relationships with hard men.
Book club pick.
Certainly fresh and raw, but I found the short stories disorienting and disjointed. Maybe I should’ve known more about the author? Maybe I should’ve taken time between each vignette? Maybe I should have hung off her words and looked for phrases I could take beyond the scene? But I didn’t, and so I just didn’t like this book very much.

i reread portions of this book regularly, usually in spring, and usually when i feel like i'm making stupid decisions about relationships. for better or worse, it usually convinces me that i'm not. and this year, that i need to get a dog.
This was just what I needed right now. An easy read with real characters in real situations.

A number of short stories of romantic relationship that are based in the outdoors world. Easy and quick read, I enjoyed but not overly moving or anything.
