The last 25% of this book was probably a 4 star for me. It was fast-paced and interesting. The first 75% was pretty slow, well maybe unless you are really into eclipses. If I would have been reading this book instead of listening, I probably would have just skipped to the end to see what happened. Because of the slow pace, I could only give it 2 stars.
Fairly predictable but has a surprising twist at the end.
This book is a domestic thriller about a pair of eclipse chaser with some courtroom drama thrown in. It is a fast moving and engrossing story. While I didn't find the main story that unique, I thought the culture of eclipse chasing was fascinating and added a lot to the novel.
Whoa! That's all I can say without spoilers. I loved it.
This one had a good story line with lots of twists. I love books that are told from the perspective of different characters, but none of the main characters were very likeable in this one.
This book was hard for me to get into, and slow at times. I wish the suspense was greater so that it was a faster page turner. However, the story was interesting enough to keep me going. In the end, the story was really great. I did not picture where it was going and the last half really shocked and surprised me.
One of the best books I’ve ever read. Gripping, and suspenseful. Rare to discover an author that can make your heart skip a beat during a tense moment. Some real twists which I’d never have predicted; it’s rare for a thriller to keep you guessing so well. A compelling page turner that had me hooked. Erin Kelly is immensely talented!
I was given an ARC from the publisher
This book was very good. I do not normally read thrillers but when I do they are very hard to put down. The thing about thrillers is it is always the last sentence that gets you so I try to get there quickly. I really enjoyed that this book centered around eclipse chasers because the US is getting one in August and I am very excited to see it. It was even mentioned in this book! It is hard to write reviews about thrillers because I do not want to give anything away. The book is told with Laura's point of view and her husband Kit's point of view. It also switches between past and present. Laura and Kit are hiding from Beth because of things that happened in the past. They Stumbled upon her at an eclipse gathering, a court case ensued, and they took her in. Bad things then started happening so they became fearful for their lives. In the book Kit says 'I was knocked off course and I never became who I was supposed to.' Kit and Laura met when they were in college and I enjoyed this passage about young love:
I often meet people who almost pity me for settling down so early. Not just because I didn't get to play the field, but they wonder what I had of myself to contribute at such a young age. They don't understand that that's the whole point. I had the rest of my life to offer Laura. I look at these couples, who only met each other after their thirtieth birthdays, and wonder how deep a relationship like that can be. There is so much unshared life to intrude upon the marriage; so much opposing history. The defining event of my life is the defining event of Laura's.
