Absolutely loved this books.
Gritty psychological thriller. Not the typical who done it mystery.
Kit and Laura witness a violent attack. What follows are a whole load of twists and turns that no one could predict.
Totally didn't see where this was going, and the ending floored me. Amazing. Will be looking for more by this author.

Book Review: He Said/She Said by Erin Kelly

4 Stars from me
I really struggled to get into this to start with and almost gave up on it. However, I persevered and am glad I did as once it 'got good' it really got good and hit a pace that I was keen to keep up with.
He Said/She Said is a typical psychological thriller which raises lots of moral questions along the way, almost too many, and boils down to the age old 'your word against mine' scenario. Most books of this type focus on a short span of time and a heightened period of awareness for all involved whereas this spans 17 years.
The little sub story of eclipse chasing is actually really lovely, it sounds like quite a special community. Though would Kit and Laura pursue this at such great expense (which they could ill afford), at such a crucial time in their lives and believing that there was the potential for them to encounter harm? No. No they wouldn't. I honestly don't believe either of them would have even entertained the idea.
Glossing over that, this is a belter of a book with maze of moral and emotional dilemmas which will keep you guessing with every turn of the page.
Synopsis: In the summer of 1999, Kit and Laura travel to a festival in Cornwall to see a total eclipse of the sun. Kit is an eclipse chaser; Laura has never seen one before. Young and in love, they are certain this will be the first of many they’ll share. But in the hushed moments after the shadow passes, Laura interrupts a man and a woman. She knows that she saw something terrible. The man denies it. It is her word against his. The victim seems grateful. Months later, she turns up on their doorstep like a lonely stray. But as her gratitude takes a twisted turn, Laura begins to wonder—did she trust the wrong person? 15 years later, Kit and Laura are living under assumed names and completely off the digital grid: no Facebook, only rudimentary cell phones, not in any directories. But as the truth catches up to them, they realize they can no longer keep the past in the past.

“Waiting for something horrible to happen is almost more draining than it actually happening.”

Unpopular opinion....
I know this is a well-loved thriller and a lot of people recommended it to me. But unfortunately I didn't like as much. The slow pace and disconnection with the characters made it a bit of a drag to be honest. The “twist” was a bit too predictable for my taste, leaving me even more disappointed with my experience of this one.
I'm of the opinion that if this was written as a courtroom drama and the twist was totally nullified I would have enjoyed it more.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley
Oh my God. I thought this book was never going to end. The only reason that I didn't DNF it was because I really, really - and I mean really - hate not finishing a book. So much so that I really think I give some books too many chances, too many last warnings and as a result, I am frequently disappointed.
This is a story told from alternating viewpoints as well as flipping backwards and forwards in time from 1999 to 2015. Kit and Laura, a pair of eclipse chasers although Kit has been doing this for much longer and the eclipse that can be seen in England in 1999 where a lot of this is based will be their first eclipse as a couple.
Unfortunately, to me, both Laura and Kit are just plain unlikeable. The Laura of now (2015) is paranoid and has anxiety issues and Kit has a massive chip on his shoulder relating to his father and twin brother and it would seem that their lives have just span out of control since the 1999 eclipse.
Anyway, Kit and Laura, Mac (Kit's twin) and his girlfriend Ling travel down to the Lizard peninsula of Cornwall for a festival where they are hoping to enjoy the eclipse, have a bit of a party and make some money selling tea.
It is here in Cornwall, just after the eclipse that Laura witnesses something that will change her and Kit's life in more ways than you could ever imagine. Laura is convinced that they have stumbled upon a rape and insists upon calling the Police.
This ends up going to court and naturally, Laura and Kit are the key witnesses.
I personally didn't feel that this book really got going until I was at least 65% into it but wow that last section certainly kept me on my toes and speeding through the book. I had no idea what to think, who to believe or even what had happened. This is where for me, the title He Said/She Said really came into it's own. My head was spinning from trying to keep track of what was going on - and no, that's not a criticism. I loved it. Unfortunately, I felt that this was just too little too late for my liking.

In the hushed aftermath of a total eclipse, Laura witnesses a brutal attack.
She and her boyfriend Kit call the police, and in that moment, it is not only the victim's life that is changed forever.
Fifteen years on, Laura and Kit live in fear.
And while Laura knows she was right to speak out, the events that follow have taught her that you can never see the whole picture: something - and someone - is always in the dark... (less)
A superb book! I was gripped from start to finish. It was one of those books where you're desperate to get to the end to know what happens but don't want it to finish because it's so good.

Let's take the most likable character and make him the bad guy! Not the best plot for a book. This book could have been MUCH better with better editing and rewriting.
This was my first Giveaway win, and I was so thrilled to tear into this book. HUGE mistake. What a boring read. I had to force myself to finish it. Had I purchased it on my own, or borrowed it from the library, I wouldn't have wasted my time, but I felt I owed it to the sponsor of the giveaway to write a review.
Simply put, this was my first Erin Kelly novel, and my last. The characters were whiny, passive, and dry. The mystery (what little there was) unraveled so slowly, I thought I would see a total eclipse before I finished this book. Each night I had to force myself to trudge through another chapter.
I feel terrible since the whole idea of the giveaways is so we'll write good reviews, which is why I'm giving this book 2 stars instead of 1.

So. Good. I became very aware by reading this fiction novel how quick I am to take things at face value. Gullible if you will. I trusted the narrator so much that it never crossed my mind that she didn’t know the whole truth.
The first half felt tedious. Lots of description where I prefer action and conversation. The story was so compelling though. Things really picked up in the second half and the twist was unexpected.
Well done.

This book was entertaining, but it definitely dragged in the first part and could’ve had a lot of pages cut and still been as good or maybe even better.
Some of the things that happened are completely impossible so you do you have to be OK with suspending found this belief, but overall it was enjoyable.
