Much easier to read than I'd originally thought. Although Odysseus' adventures at sea were interesting to read, there were a lot of unsettling questions once he finally returned to Ithaca. What does heroism mean for the ancient Greeks and does morality play into that definition at all? Does free will exist in that world? How long should grieving take?

The intro is epic in itself and like 100 pages, which was a super helpful setup since I came in kinda blind.
Takes a minute to get going, but then the middle is super fun and has all the legendary scenes.
The ending is drawn out like crazy, kinda peters, he shoulda just slayed the bastards and not messed around with being an old man and “testing” everyone.

I am proud of myself for reading this and maybe that's why I didn't mind the struggle with language and the length. I read it after Circe and it was hard to not compare that interpretation of Odysseus with this version. This is repetitive and sometimes makes you wonder "who cares?" but also it contains so much within it.
