This book was a journey... I don't know how else to put it. A long, engaging journey through all India, through history of it, through one man's life, through different cultures...
It was a long read and now it seems strange that they went on with their lives with me being unable to follow them. I grew so accostumed to this book.

This is not a book that made my emotions swirl, and there were only 2 parts where I unpatiently read forward due to action, but still I'm happy that I read it, that I witnessed this wonderful tale in the historical and cultural background so good described.

I can’t rate this book because I find it a bit dull and too speechy for my liking. It reads too much of dusty historical tomes and is one. To someone who has lived in the Himalayas (Nepal) it was ok.. I just felt like I was being put to sleep. Not impressed.

Even though this novel is quite long, it makes quick reading as the setting is exotic and the plot full of adventure. This is one of the best pieces of historical fiction I have read. I will be reading this one again!

Although I only gave this nearly 1200page book 2 stars, I know that I was glad I read it. I feel like it gave me some understanding of how divided the area of Iraq/Pakistan/Iran, etc has been for centuries. With all that has happened and is happening in this area since, I feel like too many people with zero understanding of the peoples and history of this area have very strong opinions. Maybe they would benefit from even reading a little historical fiction!
