This is sadly the last book in the series and I am so disappointed that it has now officially ended. I can’t wait for more of her books to be out so I can read them. This series as a whole is amazing. And this book was just a whole new level.

The books started straight off where two dark reigns finished. Mirabella, Jules and Arsinoe are back on the island thanks to the mist. Jules war gift has now been released and her body is overcome since the low blood magic has been broken. That’s about as much as I will let on those are a few spoilers but if you are reading this review you surely must have read the other books so they shouldn’t be spoilers.

Within this book there is a lot of action, it is super fast paced. I don’t want to go into too much detail but there are a few moments that make you try and hold your full body in once piece as you feel like shattering. There was several moments that tears appeared in my eyes so make sure that you have a box of tissues near by. I’m not sure if it was the moments that’s made me cry or the actual thought that this was the last book.

The characters in this book have developed so much, and to know that they always think positively is actually quite nice. It makes a change that not one of them thinks negatively and it actually improves the atmosphere of the whole book. Arsinoe feels like she has developed the least but then at the same time I feel like she is just perfect and lived up to her shy powerful personality. So personally I say she has just grew into her boots and it’s a shame that this happened in the last book. But I’m so pleased that it happened eventually and that I feel that she is now complete. I just wish I found out the reaction at the end that really tore me in two.

There was also a lot of sisterly love and trust going on within this book especially between the three sisters, there was also friendship goals that people dream of. At times there was a few moments where the sisters went against each other but there was reasons for this you discover them the more you read into the book so don’t hate people straight away trust your gut instincts.

I feel like the actual ending of the book was quite good as it completed everything to be truthful but just that one part at the end was just heart wrenching. So definitely prepare yourself for that. It just makes me feel like I’m not whole after reading this book.

There is still a touch of romance through this book which is actually quite nice, it wasn’t too soppy, and to be honest it’s how people actual react when they’re trying to hide it so I feel it was quite fitting. With this love there become jealousy which was also mice to actually read about in this book as there wasn’t much within the first three. So like I said at the start of this review this book was just truly amazing and I am proud to say it has made me change my favourite reading list. I plan on reading this book series at least once a year.

I definitely recommend this book series to anyone that likes adventure, low blood magic, love, friendship, magic, sisterly love and just a whole bunch of awesome characters and storyline.

Using CAWPILE rating system by “A Book Roast” on youtube as it seems to be working for me.

Sorry but that was the conclusion that I waited 4 books and 2 novellas for? Seriously? This series was not the best things I’ve ever read but they were quick fun reads but I did not like this ending.

This rating would have been probably 3 or 4 stars had Arsinoe become the true queen instead of Jules. The entire Island is built on the queens and the triplets and all that crap and they just give it up because some random girl was legion cursed but now isn’t. It would have been much more realistic if Arsinoe took the crown, she even has Billy (the mainlander boy) to have triplets with to continue the island tradition. It just completely does not make sense for the island to back Jules especially now that she’s lost the war gift/legion curse.
/End rant. I didn’t like this.

Characters:
5/10
Sorry but I really did not care for Emilia and I felt that she kind of ruined scenes in the book for me.

Atmosphere:
7/10
It had a good nice dark feeling like the rest of the books.

Writing Style:
5/10
A lot of the dialog is really annoying and it’s not the best written book ever.

Plot:
4/10
I did not like this conclusion, first of all nothing really happens until the last quarter of the book which is pretty typical of the series but then the ending was all rushed and crammed into the last few pages and it was not a conclusion that I would have chosen.

Intrigue:
4/10
I wanted to know where it was going, but as soon as one specific thing happened I could already tell I wasn’t going to like the ending so I lost intrigue a little bit.

Logic
2/10

Enjoyment:
4/10

Plot devices and tidy bows? Yes. Entertaining and read in one sitting? Also yes.

While the previous three books in the Three Dark Crowns series were a breeze to read, I found that Five Dark Fates was like trudging through sludge. I made it to the end, but it wasn’t an enjoyable experience. This is the final book in the series and it suffered from middle book syndrome. It was full of filler material until the last fifty pages and during what was supposed to be the epic battle between the queens, felt rushed and disjointed.

As a fan of the other books in this series, I liked all three of the sisters for different reasons, and I wasn’t particularly rooting for any of them to take the crown. I didn’t fully understand the Jules Legion Queen story line. It took the story in a weird direction and felt like a contrast to the previous three books that focused on the three birth right queens and their battle against one another for the crown. Maybe I missed something or misinterpreted part of the book, but I wasn’t fully convinced that Jules should be queen solely based on the legion curse. There should have been more to reinforce that story line. Maybe another battle to better showcase her abilities or explain why the legion curse was so special.

Overall this finale had a lot of potential to conclude the series in an epic way, but in my opinion fell flat at meeting expectations.

4.5/5 ⭐️

The core idea of this series is very intriguing but the true potential of it is untapped by the author. I was disappointed with how it all came to an end. Also the writing throughout has been very mediocre and convenient in a wishful thinking sort of a way. It does have dark elements to it and isn't a happily ever after story but the author never goes to the depth of any matter and writes on a very superficial level which leads to just an easy , don't really need to think, sort of a read.

I can't express the pain and joy this book made me feel. I'm so glad Billy's a grandfather tho. Also I loved the acknowledgements.
