this wasn’t bad just not what I was expecting, so I was a little disappointed.
I *thought* it was going to be like haunted house, ghostbusters with some queer romance and a slay friendship group. But, alas, the ghosts were not *literal* ghosts, they were the ghosts of our past *sigh*
This is in no way bad. It was a really cute contemporary queer romance dealing with complex family situations and whatnot, and it was a really fun, fast paced read. I was just expecting something entirely different, so I’ve gotta say that the marketing for this wasn’t good. I saved it for spooky season cause of the pumpkiny cover and haunted house synopsis, but only the like 50 pages is even in October. Most of its November and December, so bear that in mind.
Overall, super fun and cute, just not what I was looking for, and I will say that the side characters felt a little flat.

I adored this book. Most of all, I adored sweet Pax. He was the sweetest boy one could ever meet. He didn't care much for rumors nor for other's opinions. He stayed being who he was even if he was judged.
I love how Sal gradually started liking Pax. A soft enemies to lovers. He took to noticing what sweaters Pax wore, where he sat and, occasionally, what he was eating. Sal seemed to try to push everyone away but Pax wasn't having any of it.
My favourite scene with these two, without giving anything away, was the eyeliner scene. I could not help but smile.
The story itself was not exactly spooky. Yes, there were mentions of ghosts and haunted houses and living by a graveyard, but, the story was light and sweet. Obviously with something sweet there must be something bitter.
Families aren't exactly picture perfect. Everyone will have their ups and downs. From the usual sibling arguments to the absence of a parent. This book dealt in these topics splendidly and really gave the readers an insight into the life of families that are not "perfect".
Not everyone is perfect and you don't know what goes on in someone else's house. These are the main things I took from this book as well as the fact that it's okay to be who you are. People will judge, let them.
I am eager to read more from this author. This book was so comforting that I believe it may just be high on my comfort read lists.
