These books are a fun romp.

3.5

I think this really was the last book in the series, this time. It's funny reviewing it. When I read the first books in this series, I was 19 or 20. Now, by the magic of book time, I think I'm older than Becky. When I read Mini Shopaholic, I was pregnant with my daughter. Now she's four, but Minnie is still two years old. Funny how things work out.

The previous book wasn't my favorite, but it ended on quite a cliffhanger. Even then, it took me a while to feel "in the mood" to read this book. I think it's the fall release. Shopaholic books just don't seem like fall reading to me, I guess.

I do hope this is the finish of the series. It had better pacing than the previous book. It solved the mystery, had nice character moments, and even some actual character growth from Becky. It really seemed like the book gave closure for the series.

Took me a while to read as wasn't as into it as the other books in the shopaholic series. Worth a read if you have read all the others as its and end to the whole story but hoping this is the last book as it's starting to get tedious

This whole series of books is a little ridiculous. The characters are so lovable it makes each story great. Sad to be done the series but thoroughly enjoyed the last book and all the hijinks

I know I said I wouldn't read another "Shopaholic" book after the last one (mess!) but sometimes it's hard to let a teenage favourite go. I've loved these books, and the character of Becky Bloomwood, for over a decade. They were my companion on the bus rides into Vancouver, and I was a teenager before the blow-up the "young adult fiction" so it was reading Shopaholic or diving right into Poisonwood Bible. (Which I did.) Becky was 26 when this series started, so the shopaholic books were as close to a teenager's life as you could get at the time.

My main complaint (especially with the last book) is that while I've grown up, Becky hasn't. Her character is still the same egotistical shopaholic, whose spending habits and lying hurt her husband, child, friends and family. So-called "chick-lit" can be amazing fun. I sort of think of it like romantic comedy...when it's done well, it's very enjoyable, and when it's done poorly, it's saccharine and awful.

Anyways. I think Kinsella realized that Becky had to grow up, and while this book may not be the funniest or most original of the series, it's the most mature. Becky actually has character development, and the book ends with her on a different level of maturity. It feels like the series may be at an end as well, and that's okay, because this was a good, adult way to say goodbye.

My Rating :
Star : 2/5
bikini :0/5

Much better than the last book or 2, but I still hope this is the final book. It seemed to be conclusive in many areas, so that would be great! I really liked Becky being able to restrain herself from crazy shopping, in over 10 years she should have some control.

I did not like the premise of the big secret. In real life, no one would have that secret. It was a very lame secret. So the angst of the others not knowing the secret was silly.
