I've been waiting on Gabe's story since Start a Fire. He's that kid who is bouncing off the walls but endearingly cute but annoying at the same time. His effortless charm and humor kept me entertained through the two previous books. I knew when we got his story; it was going to be good. Julia delivered in spades. Gabe and Penelope Shade (my goodness, what a great name) are definitely the yin and yang ☯️. But in that, they understood each other more than anyone else.

There are layers of the story here, history to discover, secrets to be made known, but at the core--is the sweet love Gabe has for Pen. Their story was years in the making, and it was time.

I've been a fan of Julia's for many books now, and Jude has been my favorite, but Gabe is running a solid second right now. The depth of devotion this guy shows is breathtaking. And Julia made me cry again. This series was a departure from her usual style, but I have to say (and I think I have said it in every review in this series) she nailed it. I loved, loved, loved this book.

Finally a "school" book I loved! The characters matched perfectly and I couldn't get enough of their story!

Burn it down, the third book in the savage crew had our favorite trickster gabe!
I was dying for his book!! I knew he would surprise me but he really took the surprise element to max.
Julia Wolf wrote three books with three different kind of themes but each holds their own attraction.
Gabe's book is by far one of the more emotional one out of three.
This is a friend to strangers to lovers trope.
Gabe had my heart, no doubt about that but seeing his story written with the back story and all that he suffered through. At one point, I literally felt for him. (You will know once you read it)
An angsty read with hea! My heart is happy.

Gabe and Pen have a short summer fling but Gabe brutally ends their relationship, a few years later, he's back in Penelope's orbit and can't stay away.

I loved the first half of the book, it was well paced and I actually enjoyed the back and forth between Gabe and Pen. I enjoyed the way Penelope always stood up for herself and tried to avoid Gabe at every possible turn. In the same, I loved how Gabe was persistent in his pursuit and tried his best to protect her as much as possible.

But the second half did seem like it slowed down, and I was struggling to make it to end, however the final 5% was worth it. I loved seeing everything come to a climax and it was a great ending.

3.5 ⭐️ this book was an easy read. A little all over the place until you get clarity of why things happened at the end. Gabe is obsessed with Penelope and at times, his obsession was uncomfortable.
