As someone who loves fantasy political intrigue, this book got me quite invested. I found the first chunk to be unnecessarily drawn out, and at times the main character can drive me a little nuts. But the story still engaged me, and I appreciate the slow burn of the romance. I do think a lot of this book became predictable the second she said this was devoted to BookTok, but I do appreciate the way she embedded all the tropes I knew were coming into a cohesive storyline.

My first fantasy read and I liked it. The first third of the book is world building and character dev but the action gets good throughout the rest of the story. I liked that the spicy scenes were not the focus or even that spicy for that matter.
