I would love to have something like that... to be on a team with someone... and to be better together than you ever could be alone.

Goodreads would not let me give up 4.5 out of 5 stars so this is the closest I could do. Overall, I really enjoyed this book! I feel like all of the relationships whether that be family, friends, or romantic, we’re all very wholesome, and I felt like the characters genuinely cared for one another for the most part. My only critique is that I wish Hector’s background/history was a little bit more developed, because I feel like I learned more about Ari (makes sense because he is the main character) but Hector is a main character as well and I feel like I didn’t really get to know him enough.

I've been wanting to read this for forever because it just looked too cute, and I finally found it on my recent trip to the comic book store. It's a pretty hefty volume but focuses more on beautiful scenes than dialogue so it's still quick to read. I love the monochromatic art - it really gives the book a very specific mood, and it's a cool stylistic choice too. The art itself is very soft & cute - I wouldn't say it's ground-breaking but I do like it a lot; it's very pretty. Overall this is really just an adorable story that centres around baking, with themes of family & friendship, and finding yourself. I liked it a lot, but I wish there was a little more depth to it. I wouldn't call it a slowburn, if I'm honest, and I think there were opportunities for more complexity that were missed (for example, why does Ari talk to his sister about the rough patch in her relationship in the start when it never shows up again? I assume it's for the theme of like, relationships have ups and downs, but I really think it could have been elaborated on more). That's not to say there's no complexity or nothing happens - there's certainly some conflict, a couple of intertwined plots, and a number of different more subtle themes and character arcs. All in all, this is a really cute book that is perfect if you just want to relax and not stress out about the character. Sweet!

I recieved an ARC of this book through Goodreads for a review.
This book is a solid 4.5 stars! A lovely graphic novel about baking, romance, friendship, and family. It was heartwarming and charming and I'm in love with the art. Only minor complaint is that it seemed to kinda unfold too quickly towards the end...I kinda wish this would've been a series of 2 or a longer manga-type series because I'm not ready to say goodbye to these characters!
