This was a very interesting book. I did enjoy it. At times Riley passiveness drove me crazy and  Jen’s obliviousness but I was invested in the characters so that makes for good writing. I was a little dissatisfied with the ending in that I wanted to see it play out not the full case but to hear the moms statement and to experience the moment cause it’s what we were waiting for in the plot. This big moment the husband in court the other officer and the family. I do a lot of work with impacted families so i appreciated that they acknowledged actual stories and even organizations. It is a unique story though and the different perspectives seemed right on.

A hard, important read. They handled challenging topics with such care.

This book confronts head on the shooting of an innocent kid, who is mistaken by an inexperienced police officer and his partner as a criminal on the run. The young boy is black, and the police officers are white.

I thought combining the two authors to write this story was such a fantastic idea. This book looks at viewpoints from both sides. Two best friends take center stage. One is a reporter who has faced racism and prejudice her entire life. She is assigned the task of reporting about the shooting. The other is the wife of one of the police officers. How they each deal with the situation and try to maintain their life long friendship is the crux of this book.

An interesting and needed take on relevant issues that our world faces today. 4 stars.

Being told by both women’s perspectives was so interesting- especially given the topic of the book.

I have no words other than to say this book was amazing!!

I usually am reading 3-5 books at a time. I take breaks and alternate depending on my mood. This book had me drop my 3 other books because it was so good I had to finish it!
