Sadly Subway Girl didn’t work as well for me. I picked it up for the New York City setting. But the initial set-up - boy sees girl on subway, feels an instant connection and is therefore desperate to track her down - irritated me. I’m obviously too old and cynical to be caught up in a love at first sight moment. I also didn’t love the social media/ influencer/tabloid aspect of the book - so many superficial, pointless comments and vacuous self-interested people trying to promote themselves and manipulate others. Argh! I did like the relationship that developed between Ryan and Angie (and I don’t think this is a spoiler - to me it was obvious from the start) and their steam was sizzling, but the rest of the book just wasn’t for me. I’m sure lots of readers will really enjoy it though.

5 stars ... there was so much about this book that I loved. It pretty much hit every one of my likes. There was the good guy who isn't intimidated by a strong girl. There was humor, chemistry, and unexpected twists.

Ryan Carlson is just your boy-next-door good guy who happens to believe in fate and true love. Angie Prince is his opposite. She is a brash New Yorker who has been burned by love and wants nothing more to do with it. Their story unfolds in ways I didn't expect it to and reminds me you never really know what fate has in store for you. The story will capture your heart!

And, let me say this, Lisa Becker can write. The fastest way for me to deduct stars from a book is poor grammar and bad editing. None of that here!

I received a copy of the book for free from author in exchange for an honest review.

Omg this was so damn cute! I loved it!

This was my second book by Lisa Becker and once again it was a hit. I love that her books are the perfect blend of sexy and sweet. It’s exactly what you want from a romance.

I loved the main characters. Ryan was so swoon worthy and precious. Angie really complemented him well. They were so good together and I loved the big city girl with small town boy dynamic.

description

I also loved the supporting characters, like Angie’s roommate, Josie. Ryan’s two best friends, Luke and Diego, were also standouts. I particularly loved the bromance between the three of them. I would love to see a spin-off featuring one of them.

Sprinkled throughout the book were comments from The Subway Girl web series and I thought they were a nice touch. They were really accurate and showcased the range of comments made on the internet.

Lastly, I loved the little Easter egg nod to her previous novel, Starfish, with the mention of Kings Quarters. Kings Quarters is the band featured in Starfish (I highly recommend that book too).

Overall, if you’re looking for a good romance to read, then pick this book up!

Review: Overall this book was so cute! I loved the romance and the story line was adorable. I felt the character development was well done and the history they had before they meant was really well done. I also felt like the pacing was also well done.

However, I did think that the world building could have been better done and the character development of background characters could have been done a bit more too.

Verdict: A sweet romance!

Thank you to Lisa Becker for the complimentary e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Subway Girl by Lisa Becker had me hooked from the first page. Lisa Becker has put together a wonderful cast of characters that just draws you in. Combine that with a unique plot and you just can't go wrong.

The action of the book centers around Ryan, an all around swoon worthy, nice guy who sees a girl on a subway and just knows, she's the one! So he sets out on a search. Angie is a writer, turned web show producer, who recruits Ryan for a new web show to help him find his subway girl. What ensues is a unique, quick moving, amusing, and just plain fun romance.

This book will appeal to people who like books centered around reality TV shows or social media. I would classify the book as equally character and plot driven so it has something to offer for both sides. If you are a fan of slow moving character driven novels or like your romance to have some weighty substance, this may not hold quite as much appeal.

I loved the banter between Angie and Ryan as they worked together. Ryan was such a sweet guy and I loved that he was a small town guy falling in love with the big city girl. I am hoping we get a Luke and Josie story!

The author approached me about reviewing her book and the description immediately drew me in. I love a good contemporary romance. I loved Ryan immediately. What a cute concept that he was able to see a girl on the subway and know his life was changed.

It was changed, but not exactly how the reader thinks. All I have to say is that it was so good! The supporting characters were so much fun! I really enjoyed having the inserted media comments in their true format, it was entertaining.

Throw in a few steamy scenes, some work drama, and a cute supporting female and you have yourself a winner with this one! Thanks Becker for reaching out. I really enjoyed this so much! All opinions are my own in exchange for an advanced copy.

Ryan sees a girl on the subway and immediately feels a connection with her. He decides he better make a move to talk to her, but before he gets his chance she's gone. All her remembers are little details - a pink beanie and an English accent.

Ryan is determined to find her and even creates a website to find this mysterious Subway Girl. That's how he ends up being contacted by a celebrity gossip website - to see if they can help Ryan find The Subway Girl.

I won't reveal too much more of the plot, because I don't want to spoil the book! But everyone in the story is vested in Ryan to find the Subway Girl. What we slowly come to understand are the motives why - and some of them definitely ended up surprising me.

I enjoyed the way Lisa was able to highlight both the wonderful aspects of social media/celebrity gossip as well as the pitfalls. Through Ryan's journey, we are able to see what motivates the different characters in The Subway Girl and if their motivation is out of the goodness of their heart or something more sinister.

While the sexy times in The Subway Girl were hot (so hot), I wasn't really invested in the main romance. I do feel like sometimes there were too many voices in the book and those took away from the romance for me.

Audiobook:

Story: 3
Narration: 4
Overall: 3

I'm a big fan of Erin Mallon and I think she did a wonderful job narrating the various characters in The Subway Girl. I could always fell the different emotions that a character was going through.

I enjoyed the audiobook of The Subway Girl! Mystery, romance and a bit of reality TV all combined for an entertaining romance.

I received a complimentary audiobook copy of this book from the author.

I was given a NetGalley arc in exchange for an honest review.

The subway girl is a fun and light book all about Ryan looking for his missed connection who he believes could be his true love. Whilst I liked this book I wish it had delved more into the side effects of going viral, how is a person feeling after their life becomes gossip magazine fodder overnight. The characters are fun, the plot is predictable but a good time. Overall, the subway girl an easy beachy romance novel ready for summer.

ARC gifted from the author, all thoughts are my own.

This book was very unique and if you like reality TV, I think you'd like this one! At first, I wasn't sure who the heroine was meant to be but once it was clear, I really loved her! She was fun and driven, which I admire. I had a little trouble with Ryan, he is definitely a believer in fate and is a big-time romantic. I just felt like he was blinded by what he thought was his fate and that threw him off course. It did make for good drama and of course, we had that HEA at the end so it turns out good! Overall, I liked it but I felt annoyed with Ryan at times.
