(Wavering between 3 and 4 stars, so we’re going with 3.5)
There’s not all that much to say other than this is a cute rom-com with plenty of entertaining cliches. I wouldn’t say it’s earth shattering or a new favorite, but it was good, the kind of light hearted reset you need between all the fantasy and mystery. Honestly, there wasn’t anything to dislike about it, only that it had potential to be something more unique. What happens is exactly what you expect when you read the description. Jack and Pepper were sweet together and I liked the somewhat slow burn. The supporting characters were mostly likeable (side eyeing Pepper’s mom) and added enough to the story without having their own plot lines or becoming the main characters.
The audiobook specifically was well put together and I appreciated having different voices for Jack and Pepper’s chapters. Whoever voiced Jack definitely has a knack for really engaging with the reading; you can totally picture him acting it all out while he reads. Listening on 2.5x speed may distort the voices in funny ways, but you can still tell they’re doing a good job!
Overall, I enjoyed it, would recommend it if it fit what someone was looking for, but probably will forget most of what happened by tomorrow. The perfect read before going back to those huge fantasy novels :)

Started slow, but was cute and funny! Would’ve liked a more drawn out ending...this one was low key abrupt—smelled like a sequel opportunity
Cute for older kids slash young adults. Cute rivalry turned teen romance. Do not recommend for adults.

Could not even finish I was so bored. Oh well, at least I have learned to stop reading books I am not loving.
