It’s too early to say, but this might be my favorite romance trilogy. I read the first book like 4 months ago and I remembered all of the characters and plot which is a miracle. I also really enjoyed that the plot of this book is intertwined with that of the first. I quite liked Ewan and Mairin from the first book so it was nice that they were actual characters in this book, and didn’t just appear for a scene or two like some other romance books.

Can I marry Alaric, please?

This was amazing. I wasn't super fond of the first book in the series (didn't like Ewan - still don't), but I'm glad I decided to continue with it, because this was amazing. The dedication Alaric and Keeley had to their clan was incredible - they were willing to give up everything in order to seal this alliance even though they fiercely loved each other. Incredible. INCREDIBLE.

It was good but for God’s sake can Keeley stop getting injured?!

Book 2 of a series. I don’t think you need to read book 1 in order to understand this story, but there are recurring characters from book one that will appear in this book as well.

Alaric McCabe is pledged to a woman from the McDonald clan for the benefit of uniting the clans and becoming allies. Although Alaric doesn’t know the McDonald woman, he is still pledged to her. So when Keely comes in the picture and he is attracted to her, it bothered me that he pursued her knowing that he would never be able to marry her. Yes, they fight it for a bit but then eventually give in to their attraction knowing they can only be together in secret for a short time because his marriage is fast approaching.

I am not a fan of this type of storyline at all as it feels like everyone is getting screwed over. Alaric has to sacrifice his happiness for the clan, the clueless McDonald woman will marry a man who is in love with someone else and Keely is left in the dust all alone. Who wins? 🤔 no one. So the fact that Alaric and Keely agree to have a secret affair before he marries another and knowing that it will end with broken hearts just annoyed me.

Of course this all works out for Alaric and Keely in the end and the clueless McDonald woman will have to find a new guy to marry. Thankfully Alaric’s brother agrees to fall on the sword and marry her and their book is next.

I would have knocked off a couple more stars just for the simple fact that I really didn’t love Alaric and Keely, but the writing was good and the narration was fantastic so I’m going with 3.5 stars. But honestly, I was annoyed a lot when I was listening to this. But....that is a me issue as I just see this as selfish behavior rather than honoring your word and being true to your promise.

I will read the next book to complete the series as I think I will probably like Caelen & Rionna’s story.

As much as I loved In Bed With A Highlander, I was hesitant to start this book. I loved Mairin, Ewan and Crispen.

At the end of In Bed With A Highlander, Alaric agreed to marry Rionna and become Laird of the MacDonald Clan; and that’s fine…but I didn’t want a story set in another place. I wanted spend more time with Mairin, Ewan, Crispen and the rest of the McCabe clan.

So you can imagine my delight when Alaric was injured and forced to recuperate amongst the McCabes!

Even though the book was good (great even), something was missing for me.

I loved Keeley and Alaric (together and separately). I enjoyed seeing Ewan’s family again. I also enjoyed getting to know Caelen better. He’s an odd duck for me. I didn’t much care for him in In Bed With A Highlander, but I came to begrudgingly like him at the end of the book. I also came to like and appreciate him in this book. I’m definitely looking forward to his story next.

So many emotions, a lot sadder and stuff than the last book was but I'm so happy with how everything went and just as I hoped the two people for book three are ending up together and it's going to be amazing. Yay
