I know historical romances are formulaic, but this was veered off the obvious some times. And it hit me in the feels a couple times even though you know how it has to end.
Short review. Based upon the reviews I kind of skimmed I thought this would be terrible because I too was expecting Rionna to be the heroine.
It's not earth shattering or anything but I've read worse. I liked this one just fine.
3.5 stars if they'd let us do half stars

Charming and sexy. Our heroine keeley is similar in personality to Mairin from the first book, just with a different tragic backstory. She even does the same “saying things out loud that are written as thoughts” thing a time or two. But the rest of the story between keeley and Alaric is unique and heartwarming.
It was really interesting to see the conflict be mostly centred around Keeley and Alaric desperately wanting to do the right thing for their clan and not be together so he can marry the heiress to another clan and they are constantly fighting their own feelings and love for each other.
A lot of side characters from the first book make another appearance and it really helps flesh out the world of the story.

second book in the trilogy, and it did exactly what a second book is supposed to do. writing is okay, but i need something with a meatier substance. toats going to read the last one though, just to finish off the trilogy.
absolutely loved it. despite the fact of towards the end i was balling my eyes out & then was happy. it was a tear jerker but so worth it.
Any highlander who cries over his lass is a win in my book.
This book has everything. It is perfect. Alaric is the man of my dreams. Their dynamic is so sweet and pure and crushing. The forbidden love provides the most noble and gut wrenching angst that gives way to truly beautiful moments. Many tears shed, literally had to remind myself that there would be a HEA, but not in any way that felt forced or dragged out. Sets up the third book in such a lovely way as well! Hurt/comfort out of this world and old timey kink? YES PLEASE
I might be over historical romances. I'm tired of the virginal lead characters.
