As much as I love character development and personally don't mind entire books dedicated to fleshing everyone out, I also think that this book and the last could have been combined into one. Don't get me wrong, I liked the pacing of this book and showing how different people were reacting to the war. I thought it did a good job of putting everything into perspective. I like how our main crew has changed over the books, and how the addition of Billie and Clarissa has shifted dynamics around a little. But is it all necessary? I think a lot of readers will get bored.

The biggest negative I have for this book is the conclusion of what happens with Marco. He's been built up over two books now, and I felt like his ending was extremely deus ex machina. It's like the writers couldn't figure out how else to deal with him. Not that I need some big space battle or a showdown between him and Holden to feel satisfied, but what happened still made me feel empty inside.

On the plus side, it was nice seeing female characters in so many different roles in this book. And not a single one of them was taken captive or turned into a damsel in distress. Bobbie in particular got to do a lot of action scenes. I'm hoping for more development for Clarissa in the future, and for Naomi to do things outside of angsting over her son or being in a relationship with Holden. I do like her as a character, but I don't often feel like she's doing much in the books.

There are a lot of things that need to be addressed in the next books. I hope we continue following Filip, because his character grew a lot over the past two books. I liked that we checked in with Pax and I'm wondering if we'll see him again. There's the question of what happened to all the missing ships. If that was explained, I completely missed it. Though the narrative claims that the war is over, I got the sense that the characters were aware it wouldn't be that easy. I'm optimistic on where things are going with that.

I already put the next book on my TBR pile. Here's hoping that the plot can finally move forward!

I’m glad the Free Navy arc is over. The book is good but it plodded on for ages. With some better editing, Nemesis Games and Babylons Ashes could have been a single book.

Kinda mixed on this one. There was a lot happening, and it was hard to keep it all straight. I think there were a bit too many POVs, especially from those on
Medina station
. Every time we go there, remembering who they were took me a while.

Overall, still had a good time. But not as good as other books.

My least favorite of the expanse series. Inaros is a character I despise, which is a main reason. But as a foil for who Holden *could* have been or could become it is interesting. Reminiscent of the themes of Dune and charismatic leaders.

Surprisingly nuanced take on imperialism and resistance. Quite slow and lacks action but makes a good addition to the series given the character development. I wish there was a bit more info revealed about the protomolecule, though.
