I have so many feelings about this one. I honestly debated dropping this to four stars, because there were things that didn’t work, but I also enjoyed it just as much as the others. The book jumps to quadruple the number of POVs as previous books…which was a lot, but also worked (and didn’t) in many ways. It helped make the scale of book feel so grand and I loved checking in on characters we haven’t heard from in multiple books. But if you’re going to have that many POVs and returning characters mixed in with the current, it’s hard to introduce new ones. And I could not care less about any of the new characters, even if they had reason for being included.
At the end of the day, I loved it as much as I loved the others. I just love these characters and the writing and creativity involved is just spectacular. It’s the end of an era in the series and what an era it was. I’m excited for the final trilogy!

I do get why some folks might read this and be like like, wtf? Why did we spend so many chapters on peripheral characters? Holden gets the bulk of the Roci chapters, with Naomi a close second, but Alex, Amos, and Bobbie are much sparser. I had to spend a hot second remembering who Michio Pa even was, and then there's a lot of one- or two-shot chapters.
That being said, I was satisfied with the story and the follow-up to Nemesis Games--while seeing less of character favorites might feel like a letdown as this book acts as a capstone to this particular timeline, I appreciated seeing the gamut of perspectives in how each faction is impacted by the war.

Feels like the end and yet there is more.
I'm still engaged in the expanse and this was a solid entry with some interesting character moments.

Great sci fi - if you're looking into this book then you've read the previous 5 - this fits in with the previous books
Nemesis Games / Babylon's Ashes read more like two halves of the same book than separate entries.
And of those halves, Babylon's Ashes moreso has the difficult role of being the gatekeeper to the end of the series. The shift from winding up and introducing The Expanse, to settling down and finishing what's been started.
It drags a little, but every part of it feels like something that cannot be missed. A necessary entry, but not the most engaging one.

I watched the TV show first, and I’m happy to see that it remained fairly faithful to the books. Babylon’s Ashes is as far as the show got, so from here it’s uncharted territory for me.
