I enjoyed this book so much! I think I liked the romance of the second book in the series a bit better, but the twists and turns kept this one interesting. There were multiple plot twists in the book I did not see coming at all. The HEA was perfect.

[4.5]

Starlight is the big finale, and all I will say is it made me stupidly happy. Adam and Naya’s enemies to lovers, slow burn romance was heartachingly perfect. It was quite the journey to get there, but in the end, my heart was full of love and happiness for all the characters. This series will stay with me for a long time.

This book was possibly one of the most disappointing experiences of my life. Maybe worse than when I found out that the Easter Bunny and the Christkind (we don’t have Santa where I live just fyi) wasn’t real.

The Positives:
I still very much enjoy the world that the author has created in this series. The whole secret society of Angels that she came up with is very different and new and you can tell that she really thought it all through. They have their own language, rules and regulations and hierarchies within their system, it’s all very complex and interesting.
I liked the friendships and familial relationships in this book. The interactions between Naya and her family and Adam and his as well as between those two and all of their friends were very wholesome. The side characters in general were sweet and added a lot to the story.

The Negatives:
I have been waiting for this romance ever since I read the first book and when I tell you I was so let down by Naya and Adam’s story, I mean it. Their story did not go as I expected it to whatsoever, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but in this case it kinda was. They had a grumpy/sunshine thing going on, which I normally enjoy, but I really didn’t vibe with their dynamic. I didn’t feel their connection and neither did I understand why they should be together, which is really ironic when you think of the context of their love story (if you know you know).
I think many of you can agree that one part of why we read romance is because we want to fall in love with a hero, heroine or any kind of love interest no matter their gender, so naturally when one cannot connect to the male lead in a romance whatsoever, it is not exactly favourable to one’s enjoyment of the book. Unfortunately, I did not like Adam. I really did not like his character. He was not only perpetually grumpy, but also, in my opinion, downright rude at times. He constantly snapped at Naya and whenever something bothered him, he lashed out in one way or another. Not in a horrible or violent way, but in small ways like getting piss-drunk and these things aren’t going to endear me to a hero either.
Whereas I disliked Adam and disapproved of some of his action, those of Naya just annoyed the heck out of me. She was so naïve and stupid at times, I couldn’t believe it. She would make the dumbest decisions, and even though she mostly had good intentions, a little bit of thinking would certainly have done her some good.
↣ Now we all know I read my fair share of dark romances, whether it be mafia or otherwise, so I am not opposed to seeing murder in my books even if that is done by one of the main characters that I root for, since it is all fiction, but in this book I just could not justify it. There were a lot of bad people in this book and the main characters thought about killing them, which I understand, but it felt like such a big change from the previous books in this series. This is a trilogy about guardian angels and angelic beings that are here to help humans become better people and you wanna tell me that suddenly they want to become murderers themselves? What sense does that make? It felt like this book undid everything we were made to believe from the first two books.

I have been going back and forth on what to rate this since this is not a horrible book by any means, but considering the fact that I expected it to be at least a 4 star and it was not at all, I think I have to give it a 2-2.5
