Greek mythology
Mysterious pasts
Trials, Secrets, Magic
Strong/Stubborn FMC
Shadow controlling, mysterious MMC
This was SO GOOD. I loved the Greek mythology so much. I haven’t read Percy Jackson or The Hunger Games but I would say if you liked those, definitely read this. It has those vibes.
I enjoyed Sera’s personality and her connection with Shade. As soon as he was introduced, I knew that’s who the love interest was going to be. Sera felt very relatable & her reactions to situations made sense to me.
I really did not want to put this book down. I’m immediately going into book 2! I can’t wait to find out who keeps trying to kill Sera in the trials, and who Eada could be? And why do they need mortals for the trials? I feel like there was enough foreshadowing about something being wrong with the gods/Elysean’s for me to assume it’s some kind of sickness or something? Idk

This book is a light read. There isn’t a lot of world building, the magical system isn’t complex, the character development is low. There are several tropes (shadow (void) wielder, deadly games, mysterious FMC history). The writing is not bad but feels like a writer’s first work with several typos/ grammatical errors.
I like the use of mythology tied into the story.

I love Greek mythology and I liked how it was woven into this book! Most religious systems in fantasy novels are interesting. Being blessed by the gods and how that plays out, etc. I’m pretty sure Eeda had to be a god in disguise which is cool and true to Greek mythology.
I liked the trials. I think they pace the book well. I don’t know if I loved loved any of the characters but I definitely didn’t dislike them. Maia seems sweet, I’m intrigued by Amelia. Shade was your typical tall, dark, mysterious love interest. Because Sera wasn’t as gung ho about the gods as it appears everyone else is, she’s very different and not like other girls. I still liked her well enough though.
I may read the next book. Academy settings are fun, and I’m interested to see the character development. How will shade and sera interact now? I’m also interested in the furthering of the plot. What’s the mystery of sera’s past?
In summary, if you’re looking for a fun book that interweaves magic and Greek mythology, I’d recommend.

I found the FMC annoying at times but the plot is entertaining
