As a true crime sceptic reading a book about a gal with an emotionally twisted relationship with true crime, I wanted more of an unpacking of why people are drawn to true crime to process their own worries. And I didn’t get that.

This was a good book. It was unique and funny and had decent rep.

After reading some of the bad reviews this book got, I kind of get it. It wasn’t a typical romance. Really the book was focused on the emotional development of the FMC character and the romance took a back seat (and at times felt rushed).

Still, I really enjoyed this and would recommend to anyone who has a love for true crime, love 80s/90s references, and think the nerdy guy is hot!

So much fun! Is it a romance filled with true crime elements and history? Yup. Not scary but unique for sure, we follow a woman working on her doctorate about the relationships between true crime writers and their subjects and she believes that everyone she encounters could be a serial killer. Including her new hot, shy, kind neighbor. This was a blast!

Yeah... I just don't enjoy this style of romantizing serial killers. Thought I would try it since I have friends who like it. Not my vibe, no shade.

The main character was insufferable. Plus she constantly said “my dude” ….
