I was no expecting the smut that was going to be in this book or the fact that this was a genuine romance story. I was so prepared to read a book about a skeptical woman believing her neighbor was a serial killer and him actually being a serial killer and the emotional drama that goes along with falling in love with a serial killer. Honestly, the story is as basic as you can get when it comes to romance. I personally didn't really connect with any of the characters and the first half of the book, I really didn't like Phoebe. I wish we got to know more about all the characters, especially Sam and Shani.

honestly got kind of bored in the middle of it but then i got obsessed with like the last 3 chapters. conner and shani were my favorite part of the book ngl.

Can I explain how or why this book was so charming? No. Nothing deep and the overalll plot arc was pretty predictable except I went into this book not really even knowing the premise and loved the characterization and the main character was written really well. Enjoyable and world-escaping.
