DNFd at 28%. Just don’t think I was in the mood for Greek Mythology historical fiction.
adventurous challenging dark emotional hopeful inspiring reflective sad tense fast-paced

I listened to this on a roadtrip. Now I had just listened to a not so great book and was nervous about this for a follow up. However, I was intrigued right from the beginning. The narrator was fabulous and perfect for this story. I have read about the greek gods and their mythology since I was in middle school as well as many retellings of my favorite ships. I did not know anything about Circe otehr than mentions of her so this was all new to me. I loved the writing and how Miller told the story. SHe did well with the spicy and trigger scenes to let you know what happened without going into detail that would be unsettling.

I look forward to reading her other books and am sad that she hasn't written more because I plan to read any she puts out.

4.25– “the world is an ugly place. we must live in it”

tbh this was a beautiful version of circe’s story. it balanced the ideas of being stuck as who others have made you with discovering yourself, your goals, and your desires. it touches on themes of carving your own place in the world- and it is okay if that place is not the grand heroism or great adventure others seek. life is a golden cage of others’ expectations and wishes, and despite the lifetimes it may take, freedom is where you find true contentedness

~ also circe’s exile is truly just her living the dream, gimme

Aka: my audiobook was due in 4 days so I binge-listened to the first 6 hours then read the rest :’D

The language was gorgeous, and the author did a wonderful job of making Circe sympathetic, while also very clearly portraying her as an immortal, not a human. It’s very character, rather than plot driven. I found it overall satisfying.

Kinda could’ve done without the end pairing but… we just move on.
