This is one of my favourite books of all time. Miller's deep knowledge of Greek mythology is on full display here - how she managed to create this masterpiece from 2 chapters of the Odyssey and other scraps of material - yet keep it feeling authentic to the source material - is beyond me.

There is nothing I will ever be able to say that will bring this book justice. One would think that the story of a goddess, alone on an island, would be boring and nothing interesting happens. That could not be farther from the truth. Circe was everything you could hope for in a Greek Mythology retelling and then some. This story of a woman battered, disregarded, abused, and then coming out on the other bigger and brighter than what she was always told she was was absolutely beautiful. We stan Madeline Miller.
After not loving the first Greek myth retelling I read a couple of months ago, I was unsure of how much I would enjoy this but, it surpassed all my expectations. This story is beautifully written and really takes you into the world. It doesn’t info dump but provides enough details and context to make the story understandable for someone with little knowledge in the area. I loved Circe and was so drawn into the plot. I will definitely be picking up song of Achilles next!

This is an interesting book for me to review. It’s written well and if you like Greek mythology and long prose-y language, you’ll love it. For me, it felt pretty long and I got kind of bored. I didn’t feel like there was really a climax and there were a lot of characters I feel like I was supposed to know more of but didn’t. I would have liked the last 15% of the book to be half of the book, but alas.
