The MC is infuriating. She thinks very highly of herself while making mistake after mistake. Everyone she seemed to work with in book 1, she all but disregards in this book, and makes a mess all on her own.

This book definitely has a lot of miscommunication (or lack there of) and plotting and politics.
The overall plot and execution (writing wise) was good... the MC was just so aggravating that I can't go above 3.5 stars. Bummer.

Para aquellos que no lo saben The Caged Queen es la secuela de The Last Namsara de Kristen Ciccarelli, un libro que leí el año pasado y AMÉ absolutamente. ¡NECESITAMOS MÁS LIBROS CON DRAGONES porque afsdgfhjk! Me emocionaba mucho leer la secuela de esta maravillosa primera entrega, pero le tenía bastante miedo porque no sabía qué esperar. Aún cuando estaba leyendo The Caged Queen lo juzgué demasiado rápido, pero luego terminé amándolo aún más que el primer libro.

Al principio estaba un poco incómoda con esta novela, ya que no sigue a la misma protagonista que The Last Namsara, ni la misma línea de la trama. Esto no me gustó en lo más mínimo porque yo amaba todo sobre el primer libro y no tenía interés alguno en leer sobre esto en la secuela, así que juzgué The Caged Queen de antemano. Pero luego me fui relajando, y poco a poco me enamoré completamente de lo que Kristen Ciccarelli me proponía. Esta nueva historia y estos personajes son magníficos, y lo que la autora quiere trasmitir es dulce y de lo más bello. Me costó al principio, sí, pero entendí que pareciera que hubo un cambio en Ciccarelli y sus libros se volvieron algo aún más mágico de lo que ya eran. Esta es una historia de dos hermanas con un poder inimaginable, sobre un rey con muchas caras, sobre amores prohibidos y dragones. Eso sí, hubieron pocos dragones para ser una trilogía de fantasía con dragones, y eso lo eché mucho de menos.

No voy a decir que The Caged Queen es de las mejores secuelas que he leído ya que no es el caso, pero está bastante cerca de serlo. Es más, sin duda es de las mejores secuelas que he leído este año. LES RECOMIENDO MUCHÍSIMO TODO LO QUE HA ESCRITO KRISTEN CICCARELLI porque sus libros poseen una magia y un poder que lo pueden todo. Esta es una historia que vale la pena, justo de las que me sacan una sonrisa, me ponen los pelos de punta y retuercen mi corazón. ¡Cuántos sentimientos! Esto es de lo que quiero ver en la literatura. Cabe aclarar que no es perfecto (y por eso no le di las 5 estrellas que en mi corazón se merece) pero es magnífico, lo que es casi lo mismo xD. Si les gustó The Last Namsara, tengan en cuenta que este libro es diferente y que no será igual al anterior, pero estén abiertos al cambio porque lo que Ciccarelli tiene que ofrecer los va a sorprender y seguro que les encanta. Y si todavía no han leído estos libros, ¡HÁGANLO! Aafsygduhfigjh tengo ganas de leerlo todo de nuevo <3 ¡QUÉ PRECIOSIDAD DE HISTORIA! Este tipo de libros son los que lo significan todo para mí.

Ok so I LOVED this one. It gave me serious Eugenides vibes, too, and I know the author loves Megan Whalen Turner's books (but who doesn't?). Plus, one of the first lines about how "she married a king and raised an army in less than three months" is almost word for word from The King of Attolia.

So yeah. Dragons + arranged marriages + shoutouts to one of my favorite series = exactly my kind of book.

A quick read, with engaging characters, interesting plot and fantasy elements. The romance elements keep us reading faster. A fairy tale and legend atmosphere that I love.

I would've given this 4 stars if it wasn't because I just couldn't stand Roa half the time. And when you spend so much of a book wanting to reach through the pages to slap some sense into the main character, then that kind of ruins the fun a bit.
