great start

What a wonderful start to a new series! I always love falling into Jaymin Eve’s worlds, this one was no exception! I have so many thoughts and theories, I can’t wait for the next book to come in march!

Method: ebook
Rating: 4/5 stars
h rating: 4/5 - Morgan
Drama: 4/5
Trope(s): fantasy
Thoughts: very good start, will definitely continue.

This is a classic case of “DO NOT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER!” Honestly if I could give no star I would. I was attracted by the great cover, the 4.5 ⭐️ average rating and the fact that the MC is 25. So I thought 25 is mature so there will be a great FMC to get behind here. But ah no. Just no. How wrong I was. This is the worst series I’ve had the misfortune of reading this year. I only finished the two books because I made a pact with myself to try and not DNF this year but it was hard. So hard I literally flipped through 95%. To say the series was cringey is an understatement.

Just cannot stand the writing or the plot. Weird

Hoping book 2 is better!
I was super invested at the start but by halfway through I started getting a lil bored.

So I really like a good fantasy, paranormal or sci-fi story, but I often find that they're sub-par or I'm so confused by the author trying to introduce us to their world in 100 pages or less, that I lose interest. But when I find a good one, I'm hooked.

I wasn't sure for the first few chapters if I was going to like this one or not. But the writing was solid and the concepts well explained that I kept reading. I typically like a story with a dual point of view, but this one is told solely from Morgan's point a view; a little human in a world of fae and their gods. Bring in a few steaming hot scenes, entertaining banter and a growing mystery to solve for the perfect combination. Be warned, this one ends with a major cliff hanger so I'll have to wait until book two for the rest of the story.

giving an extra star for having Zahak <3 minus four stars for making me climb up mount everest to get to the main conflict and then just ending the story there. i can't believe it took 190 pages to get interesting.

i felt like it was finally reaching it's potential when the MC enrolled into fae university (in the final quarter of the book). i thought we would finally get adequate world building and lore on all the different kinds of fae that live there. but no, it was glazed over in favor of introducing a love triangle :eyeroll_emoji: and then boom, war starts. but actually it doesn't because that's where book one is over.

i really wanted to like this book but it was a tough read. very slow start, fanfic-like dialogue, MC and the love interest interact like six times, spicy bits weren't even that spicy.

overall just underwhelming considering the hype it got on booktok.
