Strong female character. Wasn’t sure where this book was going, but interesting. Figured out quite a bit about half way through. Does every book written in 2020 need to contain a gay couple? Interesting set of problems to solve.

Love a good pirate story and can't wait for the next one.
There are a few things that i really love and consider my “thing.” Pirates are one of them! Something about swashbuckling, exploration, the call of the open sea, the fine line of good and bad that is danced around like a river dancer. I’m convinced somewhere in my Caribbean blood i have pirate ancestry.
Anyway, this was a good pirate story. A coming of age with a female protagonist which I’m totally happy to experience. The story had some predictable bits but overall it was treated like a popcorn flick. Nothing crazy about the story but it was enjoyable to see it play out. I do love how it really showed the meaning of a crew. The way the trust evolved and friendships progressed. It had me rooting for the relationships to do certain things like confess secrets or be more accepting. The bond that grew between the characters really shone through for me.
But like i said, i dig pirates. And i appreciate and know the struggles of finding and maintaining a trusting fami..i mean, crew.

I like this series. I think I definitely benefited from reading the prequel first as it helps fill in some gaps. Overall I like the world and the characters.
