Suuuuuper cheesy at points but contained surprisingly good, concise overviews of various superladies. Also, the artwork is gorgeous.

I never knew I needed this book but I’m SO glad I stumbled upon it!
Being only familiar with the MCU, it was super interesting to read more detailed information about the characters I already love and I hugely enjoyed getting to know some of the amazing female characters not featured in the MCU yet. One of the best parts of this book are definitely the illustrations, they are all straight up gorgeous and and it’s worth buying the book for the pictures alone! So if you’re just a casual Marvel fan trying to learn something about the universes, or a die-hard Marvel stan, I would really recommend this book. 5/5.

Empowering.
Learning about all the diverse women of the Marvel Universe is very empowering for me. Superheroes have, until recently, been viewed as very cisgender straight white male. Of course, there's nothing inherently wrong with that, but giving trans people, queer people, and women their spotlight as heroes is something that fits seamlessly into the discourse of 2019. Reading this book made me want to get more into comics, and I have read a few since then and greatly enjoyed it.

The illustrations are awesome. Love the style used.

The text is a summary of non-stick comic book stories, and there's a lot of text. Pretty thorough for the comic book fan that wants to learn more about these ladies of Marvel!

The artwork in this is beautiful, but the narrative element became stale about halfway through. It felt a bit formulaic with info about specific heroes being slotted in in the slot provided. I was happy to learn more about heroes I didn’t know much about though.

Overall I liked this book. The art is fantastic and it was great to get to better know characters I've only met in movies or TV, or not at all. I did find the tone a little forced. I know it's written for younger readers, but still

Synopsis: This is the Marvel Universe. Where the personalities, powers, and straight-up legends of countless heroic women have captured readers for generations.
This unique book is the perfect start-or addition-to any Marvel fan's collection! Using her in-depth knowledge and passion for Super Heroes, Lorraine Cink explores the lives of the exceptional and diverse women of the Marvel Universe. Filled with inspirational lessons and clever observations, each section digs into what these relatable women can teach us all about growth, bravery, and the true meaning of strength. Paired with over one hundred original, vibrant, and emotive illustrations from the talented Alice X. Zhang, this book balances the responsibility and the fun the comes with being a hero.

Review: I have always been a DC kind of girl, but I can’t help but notice how much the women of Marvel kick ass. They’re not only amazing in their powers, but they’re very diverse too. I loved that this book highlighted not only the most known women of Marvel, but the new or unknown women as well! This book didn’t disappoint with the nostalgia and it introduced me to new women to read about! While the book doesn’t cover all of the women of Marvel, it covers 65 noteworthy ones. Some notable ones included were America Chavez, Valkyrie, Ironheart, Moon Girl, Squirrel Girl, Ms. Marvel, and Ghost Spider. All of these women are different from each other, but similar in one way: they’re all kick-ass females! Definitely a must read for anyone. More people should know about these heroes!

The only issue I had was that I wish that the book was longer! I wanted to know more about these heroes and now I want all of the comics!! Definitely go to a comic store after reading this book!

Verdict: A coffee book I’d actually read!

I cannot love this book enough. I came late to the Marvel game, not truly embracing it until the movies. But I very definitely preferred Marvel over DC—with one caveat. DC did a better job of female heroine representation. At least to those not fully immersed in the comic universe anyway. I lamented that the only well known Marvel heroine was Black Widow, until Scarlet Witch came along. SHIELD gave us some additional small screen heroes in Quake & Yoyo (& Jenna Simmons who is absolutely a superhero despite her lack of super powers). But my superhero-loving daughter always tilted towards the friendly, accessible DC Superhero Girls because there seemed to be so few known Marvel heroines. This book changed all that. Not only is it completely dedicated to Marvel FEMALE superheroes, it adds in some BIPOC representation with a dash of Queer representation as well. I thought the writing was engaging (if a bit grating at times due to the very conversational, Millennial voice) & all of the backstories fascinating. A worthy addition to any superhero-loving girl's library.

I really enjoyed this book, the art, and the history behind these powerful heroines in GNs. I highly suggest reading it, if superheroes are your thing.
