I only read this book because I have a reading challenge going where I read whatever book each family recommends and this was my dad’s pick. So, I won’t be doing the same challenge again because fuck this book. MULTIPLE dogs and lots of racism?? No thanks.

I will say I liked the frontier-sy kinda setting, and it was written well, and I can see why it’s an enduring classic for kids or whatever but in my opinion as a grown adult in 2019 who loves dogs? Fuck this book.

i liked it i would read it if you like books about dogs

i dont think it was THAT awesome.

Poor doomed Yeller. I read this for the first time at 28 and it is surprisingly touching even when you know the ending in advance through cultural osmosis.

I have always loved classic children's literature and have read much of it. I especially love the classics that have animals in them. This particular book is one of my favorites and I think it is equally good when you it as an adult or as a child. The characters are engaging and realistic and the story draws you in. It is also equally good as an audiobook.

It’s a nice short story but it has lots of racist language and sexism that it’s hard to enjoy.

Just found this on my shelf and remembered ALL THE FEELINGS. I read this back in too-young-to-remember era, and all I remember is SOBBING. Stupid dog, making me as an infant cry.

I don't know why baby Amy did this to herself. Ouch is an understatement.

Spoiler alert: Dumbledore dies.

There's nothing like a well-written book about the bond a human and a dog share. It hits you at your most primitive core. As heart-wrenching as it is, I can't wait to read this book with Spencer because of its adventure and action. Good book for kids, especially animal lovers.
