This was an enjoyable read with a quirky twist. Loved the best friends dad trope and Anyta has written this so wonderfully.

I adore that they basically already live together and that Lake is so clueless!

Emerett is ..... different. He doesn't correctly interpret social cues at all. I don't feel that the intention of the author was for the character to be neurodivergent but the premise requires Emerett be clueless.

I enjoyed the story and thought that it was sweet.

4.5 stars. Wonderful modern adaptation.

This original modern adaptation of Emma by Jane Austen certainly remains faithful to the book that inspired it. It had me fully hooked from the very beginning and I couldn’t put it down - a one sitting read.
Lake cannot help himself with his non stop meddling, is quite dramatic, is in complete self denial and can be hurtful at times but the writing ability of this author redeemed him. Knight is older, sensible, patient and has an inordinate amount of empathy for others. Between them is a unmistakable current of sexual tension and buckets of mutual pining which after a long slow burn is enacted upon.
The main characters are supported by a very interesting and, at times, slightly eccentric cast of side characters. Harry is just adorable and I wanted to give him all the big squishy hugs, after I wiped a tear from my eye.
This is a very enjoyable slow burn with some feels, a dash of angst and lots of witty banter. I highly recommend it.

I am going to echo some of the sentiments reviewed here where some had issues with the age gap.

I'm not a big fan of age-gap romances to begin with, but when the love interest is your friend's parent which is almost like your own father as seen how much they hang around each other, then I'm not so keen about it. I may be a hypocrite since I'm okay with reading about incestuous relationships but only when it's between people in the same generation or perhaps a gap that is not large as almost 20 years.

I love this author but this is a no for me.

When I first started reading Emerett Has Never Been In Love by Anyta Sunday, I thought it would be exactly what I wanted out of an Emma pastiche. I bought this book with the intention of buying every other volume in Sunday’s Jane Austen retelling series, but this book soured me on the prospect of doing so after it took me nearly four months to actually finish the first one.

The writing wasn’t the issue, either. I think Sunday has a very easy-going sort of writing style that is easy for readers to connect to. The problem for me was the harebrained story. I remember Emma was a rather frustrating book, but I also thought it was a fun sort of frustrating because of the humor injected by Austen. It was a commentary on the romantic entanglements of the time period. It worked.

This book was hardly as fun. The only realistic thing about the book was the fact that every hot gay guy in town knew about each other. I guess I was hoping it would be a commentary on how rough dating in an insular gay community is, but it wasn’t. Lake was also not a great lead at all. I wasn’t rooting for him at any point in this story. Knight was the only sensible person the the entire book, which I suppose was also fairly accurate to Emma.

I do intend to read more of Sunday’s books, though. I just won’t be rushing to get them anytime soon…I have way too many other fantastic LGBTQ+ books to read before I cycle back to the Love, Austen series.

I really liked the illustrations.
I feel like the ending is a bit rushed ? Which sort of turned me off but it was a nice read nonetheless.

I was not disappointed by this book. This was a romantic retelling of a classic Jane Austin novel. This book fulfilled the idea of a contemporary MM romance. I enjoyed reading this book the whole time. I thought the author had a great way with dialogue and writing style. You could feel the emotions that were potrayed from and by these characters. This book was very descriptive to make it feel like a movie was playing in your head.

I definitely enjoyed this book and would totally recommend it for others.

So much guessing and miscommunication. It hardly left room for the main pairing to actually form and explore a connection.
