Que las consecuencias de tus actos duren siglos.

Guys... this is literally a knock off of ACOTAR. Like, I can point out so many scenes that are as close to replicas of SJM's book while barely avoiding plagiarism. Hale and Remy are just cheaper and less interesting versions of Rhys and Feyre.

I get it. There's no such thing as an original story, just new ways of telling it. This was just blatant mirroring. Choppy writing really had me struggling early on (to the point I figured I was going to throw another book in the DNF pile). However, I had heard good things about this being a good fantasy romance with diversity (because we don't see enough of that in the fantasy world). Except that also fell flat--the characters felt forced and had no personality, we are only a few chapters in and suddenly everyone is buddies, and there is still this wishy-washy behavior between our MCs which had me wanting to pull out my hair.

I wish I wasn't so disappointed because I would love to have a fantasy story with good representation and strong women. I mean, I loved ACOTAR and was excited to get a book that people compared to the series... I was not expecting to basically read the exact same book down to specific scenes.

This book is exactly what it says on the tin: a wonderful escape into a fantasy romance. A good, albeit predictable, story surrounding humanly (or fae-ly) flawed, but lovable characters. If you wished  Graceling had more spice or if you loved A Promise of Fire, you will love this book. The author writes the main character very well, and I even felt connected to many of the side characters. Overall, a solid read. My only note is that the book probably could have ended 10% (thank you kindle) sooner than it did.

"The world would not make her, she would make the world."

I enjoyed this! I had a fae hangover from reading These Hollow Vows by Lexi Ryan and I wanted to read another good fae book. This was worth it.

The twists in this book! There were several that I didn't see coming and one that totally melted by heart. *coughs* Bern *coughs*

I like how there finally wasn't a love triangle and that the mate thing wasn't exaggerated or over the top. The plot was overall pretty chill, good world-building, the banter and humor was great

I really wanted to like this book more and it would’ve been a 2 star read for me if the ending didn’t have a couple of quick twists that I didn’t see coming. Spoilers below:

This book reads like a Sarah J Maas fic. The main character is hidden royalty after her entire court was slaughtered, there’s a magic life saving ring, a scene during a poker game that is very ACOMAF court of nightmares, fated mates where one knows and one doesn’t. The writing is juvenile and the other characters are not well thought out. They are just there as space filler with no backgrounds or interesting features. At one point the author writes out the main characters’ closest friends because I feel like they didn’t know what to do with them.

Remy is also such a perfect character that she immediately picks up and knows how to fight, how to perfectly swing off a horse after riding one twice, she remembers every single detail of her fallen court after not having seen it since she was 6. She and Hale are instantly in love because they are fated mates.

I feel like if the author would’ve taken more time to flesh out the characters this would’ve been way better. It is the lowest rated book in the series so maybe the next ones are a lot better. This just didn’t do it for me expect for the ending which was pretty neat during the final battle, but again the characters are just not fleshed out. Her brother dies immediately and her sister is like talking to a wall. But I might read the second one lol.
