If you've read a Court of Thorns of Roses or From Blood and Ash - this is similar but WAY less good. I guessed how this was gonna go down from the beginning and the main girl is a whiny mess. Feel your emotions girl, but eventually do something about them. Everything else that happened was equally emotional and "omg" it's a mortal wound but wait...jk! Stop killing people just to have them come back somehow. It happened 3 times in the span of 100 pages.

Also...

Fated, my Fated, Fated love, Fated mate...PLS STOP. Pls.

Can we also get rid of men and women being described as nothing but males and females? Sarah J. Maas can get away with it - barely - but that's because we all have given up hoping for something else.

Favorite part of this book were Bri and Carys.

Thanks for that at least.

i'd like to start by saying i DID like this book. i'll probably pick up the rest of the series as well. the characters were fairly loveable and the setting is interesting. the magic system was intriguing. i wish they would've dug into it a bit more, maybe the book would've benefitted from a bit more pages?

however the story was fairly predictable, even the twists, if you're someone who reads fantasy at least semi-regularly. even more so if you read fae romances. i had a good time reading this and it kept me engaged until the end, but its getting a 3.75 simply because there was nothing about the book that really stood out to me. there are definite acotar influences here and a lot of fantasy romance and fae romance tropes are present, so if you like that then you'll probably enjoy this book!

but maybe ive just read too many books of this type because there wasn't much special about this one to me.

Sorry I just hated the writing of this book!

4.25 stars! This shit was GOOD

There were things I loved about this book and things I didn’t care for.
The beginning I wasn’t into it but as I went on I felt more invested.
Enemies to lovers/fated lovers trope.
Loved the ending and can’t wait to see what book 2 has in store
