I really liked this book. The manic is fun and the plot is good. It’s what you would expect of a romantacy.
Remi is easy to like and so is the bastard price, Hale.

It was good until the graphic and poorly written sex scenes. Like there is better ways to say those things than using the word “pounding” and “she shattered” or “he touched that bundle of nerves”. It really offset the pace of the book. Compared to how the rest was written.

There were so many great characters in this book and the way humans, Witches, and fae were all part of different courts was really cool.
I loved the friendships and the focus on family (and found-family). And the romance was actually perfect.

I really liked the premise in the beginning but I found a lot of the book to be repetitive. I have no idea how many times it was repeated that only red witches can animate objects. It's the same book, I remember what I've read in the last chapter, no need for the reminder. Towards the end I just started skimming the book. Figured out the twist early on and plenty of hints were dropped as well. I found the shut to kind of be misplaced. The book was better off without it.

Okay so it's partially on me that I didn't notice that this book was tagged fantasy romance and not just fantasy, and I wouldn't have been so caught off guard had I noticed that. But I really wasn't expecting how a few of the chapters really just felt like smut. Other than that, it was a fairly nice fantasy novel, probably would've gone with 3.5 stars. But that was enough to really squash my enjoyment. The world is well built, the characters are fine enough, and the plot is fine, but the "romance" writing really just hit all the wrong notes for me.
