The pacing and dropping of very important things gave me whiplash and I could see the “plot twists” a mile away, but I still had a good time.

It was definitely a fun novel, but by no means was it perfect. To begin, what I liked about this book was the intrigue! I could guess from the very beginning that Remi was High Mountain fae royalty and I was just waiting for it to be revealed. A fun plot!
However, some things I didn’t like. First, as much as I love the idea of Remi sliding under 5 soldiers feet and ripping up their legs with a dagger, she only had like 5 combat lessons. And before then, she had never fought a day in her life. Additionally, her mother figure dies sacrificing herself for her, and it’s barely mentioned? It’s, like, ok yeah. She made the right choice…. What?! And there’s not even the slightest bit of guilt or sadness or anything?! I don’t know. There were a couple other things. Even though the book was good, there’s just some writing tropes that don’t sit right with me.
