Definitely a predictable story but it’s still really good. The characters and their relationships make the book. The second half of the book was so action packed and exciting. You can tell it’s definitely the first in a series and I’m really excited to read more. I enjoyed how everything was so descriptive-it really painted a good picture for how the world looked. I loved following the FMC and seeing how she grew throughout the story to fulfill her destiny

I really enjoyed reading this book. I was immediately interested and into the story. Deena is such a STRONG FMC, but not in a frustrating, icky way. She takes control of each situation she’s in and handles it all with grace. I immediately knew as soon as we met Dreyden that I was going to end up loving him. Not to mention the fated mates aspect?! Ugh I’m obsessed and I really can’t wait to continue this series. I highly recommend it to any and everyone!

Received an arc ebook in exchange for an honest review. I would say it’s 3-3.5 stars overall. The ending was good but I wasn’t as connected to the characters as I had hoped. Very similar vibe to ACOTAR but not as world/character building.

This was an ARC read - but the trigger warnings got me.

Let me start by saying that regardless of my rating, I really enjoyed this book. The beginning of the book had me intrigued right away and really sucked me in and kept my attention throughout.
Right from the beginning, the reader is greeted by a very fierce heroine and thrown right into the action. I immediately wanted to read more and was convinced this was going to be a fantastic top read.
I didn't realize when I picked this book up that it was the author's debut, but as I read further, I began to see patterns of a new author. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two MC's but was conflicted on some of the words chosen during their spicy scenes. With the setting and time period set further back (royal guard, kings, castles, etc), I wasn't expecting modern dialogue and praise mixed in. It didn't deter too much from the story, just something I noticed.
My main reason for a lower rating, is the gaps in the story's timeline and how short the book is. As I've stated previously, the beginning of the book was really good, so I was sad that the book was short because it felt rushed and incomplete. Maybe another 50-100 pages in the back half of the book could have filled in details of the overall world, the prophecy, and multiple characters would have made the story feel more well rounded and encompassed me even further into their world.

Now, with all of that said, I still really enjoyed the book and plan to read more from this author and this series.
For those that are new to the genre and want to dip their toe into a smaller, less complicated fantasy book, this is a great place to start. I do recommend this book and I hope to see the author develop their skills over time.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I absolutely adored this story so much! The character growth and story progression were phenomenal! Suspense, action, and wonderful world building.

This was an interesting story to read. I liked it! By the end I wanted to scream at times for the Adeena to use her powers already! This story starts off very sad and is detailed about it. I liked the storyline, the plot, and the details the author did for this book. I honestly can't wait to read the second one to see what will happen after the end of this book!

Very fast paced. I enjoyed it, but would’ve like to have more of the story.

Too fast paced. A little too immediately vulgar and gory.
