Not really sure who this is for. Felt like it was written by a middle schooler despite the explicit content. Used words like “shmancy” without any irony and FMC drinks blueberry and green apple martinis on a casual night out. Aesthetic is red and black house, hot topic tween. I’m ok with morally grey, red flag waving book boyfriends but not like this.

I read Haunting Adeline because of all the hype online, and while I went into it curious about what the buzz was about, I ended up giving it a 3/5. Some parts of the book were definitely intriguing, but others were outright disturbing, making it a difficult read for me.
The central premise—falling in love with an abusive stalker—was something I just couldn’t get behind. Throughout the story, I kept asking myself how this dynamic was supposed to work. The romance felt twisted in a way that wasn’t compelling for me, and it was hard to see how the main character could develop feelings for someone who’s so clearly crossing every boundary. It took away from any potential connection I could have had with the characters or their relationship.
There are moments that create tension and build the dark, eerie atmosphere, but the disturbing scenes really overshadowed those aspects for me. I found myself questioning a lot of the choices made in the narrative.
I can understand why some people are drawn to this darker style of romance, but personally, I struggled with the content. If you’re into really dark romance with controversial themes, it might be worth a read, but it wasn’t something I could fully enjoy.

Haunting Adeline – I don’t even know how to feel about this book. I’m deeply conflicted. I found myself staring at certain scenes like: Is this hot? Is this horrifying? Should I be reading this?
Let’s start with what did work for me: the whole vigilante/justice secret organization thing? That part totally delivered. Zade, when he’s not being a full-time stalker, is actually pretty cool. I liked the concept of someone hunting down traffickers. There’s a part of him that almost makes sense. Almost.
But then there’s the relationship. And I’m using that word very generously. The dynamic between Adeline and Zade is... a lot. Toxic is an understatement.
Long story short, for me, this felt like dipping a toe into the dark romance world, but whether I want to keep walking through that door or turn around … I’m still undecided.
In conclusion:
• Zade? Terrifying, morally grey af and sometimes, sometimes hot
• Adeline? Girl, blink twice if you need help.
• Me? Confused, intrigued and slightly traumatized.
Still, there were a couple of passages that I genuinely liked:

“I think killing people is wrong,” I shout in his face, breathing heavily and allowing my body a moment’s rest. I’m scared, but my body is exhausted.
“Why?” he volleys back. “Because society told you it was? Because humans fabricated morals so they can control and manipulate people into law and order? Do you think other mammals follow the same morals and rules? We’re all fucking animals, baby. The only difference is I don’t suppress mine.”
“I have never pretended to be a good person. But what I did do was create my own fucking morals to live by. I will keep killing every deranged individual who resides on this goddamn planet if it means children don’t have to die, and you don't have to live in danger.”
This is not a romance. It’s just not. Truly one of the worst books I’ve read. It’s dumb, nonsensical, boring, and gross. Characters that develop interests in each other bc they share a common rape kink (is it shared? Is it a kink? Is it just rape and we’re all gaslit to believe Addie likes it when most of the text suggests she does not?) doesn’t translate into “dark romance.” We need new labels for trash like this.
